You're right. Highway driving is where the problem usually happens. I have a chip in my windshield from a truck on the highway :( .

are those kinds of chips and cracks covered under the scion warranty?

I don't think so.

Road hazards and normal wear and tear are not covered under waranty. Pretty much if it's not a manufactuers defect it won't be covered.

The problem is the design of the car. The front windshield sits too perpendicular to the road. That and the front isnt very aerodynamic, so any debris that is flying through the air hits the windshield like a brick wall.

the design of the car is what attracted people to it though.

The windshield angle, height and aerodynamics is not much different than my old Datsun 510 which didn't have any particular problems. My feeling is that the windshield glass now made isn't as tough as it used to be. It certainly picks up little nicks and scratches easily.

However, keep in mind that this is a forum of hundreds of new Scion owners, which tends to amplify problems. Only those who have problems talk about it. Nobody is going to post "gee, my windshield is perfect today!"

will a hood guard/ bug deflector help deter rock chips on windshield? like those on SUV and trucks? just a thought.

something like this .. .http://assets.performanceproducts.com/assets/product/102149/102149_200_2.jpg

Every time I get on fwy at night time, I always get bug splatter. :? Lucky it's not rocks, but deflector should change the wind flow to prevent things from flying into windshield, though some heavier things won't deflect that easy, but I'm sure it'll keep those bugs, mist, & tar off the windshield. I wouldn't know about deflecting rocks though, we need someone to test out!

I agree that the windshield is crapy. Last week I was driving in the highway about 55 and I got hit by a stupd rock from a stupd car that was pretty stupd away from me. :x

Im wondering if you put a clear tint, or a very very very light colored tint on the windsheild if it would prevent chips and cracks. I mean, People talk about the see through bra for the front, but what about a see through bra for the window, If this is the case it will be one of my first mods when i get my car in june.
