wow. i gotta give props to this guy, and i've certainly learned the limitations of my car and am really curious how the supercharger would help in this situation. first run i got to 125 and we seemed to stay together, got back down to highway speed and he flashed me, at first i didn't get it, but im assuming he wanted to have a little fun. he let me get ahead, and he just plain blew passed me, mind you i was 120 at this point, i was amazed and laughing my ___ off. I know what to get when i grow up.

The same thing happened to me today on my way to work. I saw this guy in an audi moving through traffic so I figured I roll with him. At one point I passed him going a buck something around traffic and then he passed me. :relief: I just let him go cause I knew nothing good could come of me trying to keep up.

I came from an Audi, Audi's especially the S4 is something you don't want to be messing with, I know plenty of them who are a wolf in sheeps clothing.

probably an A4. . . those cars just beg for boost. But most of the Audi line is already going to be faster than the Scion line. . . and they can do it completely stock. A4, A6, A8. . . and you don't even want to mention the S series. . . and for the larger sedans, it would probably be a 4.2, but even the 3.2's are decently quick.

actually, a stock LS would blow by me at 10MPH like I was standing, but it was my last car. . . man. . . your LS is truly an inspiration though. Makes me want to get another one and do it right.

i can't help but imagine those audi drivers going to their audi forums and saying "i just killed a tC blah blah blah" if i learned one thing, it's that i wouldn't mess with anything recently released from europe (maybe something like a mini, but that's pretty much it). even several european SUVs have the potential to hand your ___. :P

A friend of mine in San Antonio has an Audio A4 Quattro. We upgraded the turbo on it to the KO4 package. I gotta tell you that damn thing was pretty quick and sounded like a damn jet when hitting boost. I could still beat him in my old truck (2000 Dakota R/T @ 350hp) but he wasn't too far behind.

Having driven and owned faster cars, no they wouldn't. It's really not a big deal. Killing 4-bangers is a common place thing for that particular class of cars. You have to realize that many models run 14-15 second 1/4mi's stock and can do 0-60 under 6 seconds. . . with an auto. Most ricers (I know we're not, but we get lumped into the same category) are lucky to hit 15 flat. . . and the tC. . . the fastest Scion doesn't even break 7 in 0-60.

It's no disrespect to any Scion, but it's a fact. . . we are VERY slow, compared to the the line of REAL performance cars. The tC is a sporty econo-coupe, at best. Think otherwise, and you are a ricer (god, I hate that word). Put $5,000 into your car, and then start comparing, but even then, most of those guys whould laugh at you for spending 30% of the value of your car on mods that don't hold value. If speed were the goal, we'd all be driving used Camaro's that run stock 13 second 1/4's. But tC's are cool, practical cars. They're not daily maintainence Camaro's.

But yeah, do it for the fun of it, but don't expect to win against higher end cars, unless you have some serious mods, or you happen to race a lowly BMW 523 or a heavy heavy GS300 (you'd get killed by a GS400, despite the weight difference). The heavy luxo sedans with the low option engines are slow.

I would not say that Camaros are daily maintenance. I know it is the perception that imports are more reliable than domestics, but I have owned both (currently own both) and the maintenance is about the same. I just keep the oil changed. My Mustang has 116,000 miles on it and I have never changed anything on it but the oil and filters. I dynoed it the other day and it is still putting down 240 RWHP. Not bad for a car that was rated at 235 Flywheel HP from the factory.

We just got my friends 2001 S4 back from dropping it off to get APR chipped and some other miscellaneous things...all I can say is 400ft/lbs to the wheels @ 16 psi is real pretty :lalala:
The onyl problem right now is he is misfiring in his 6th cylinder...I think its just a coil pack cause the plugs were changed out already and its still doin it.

I was exaggerating to make a point. I like F-bodies, if I had the time to work on one, it'd be my track monster. Most people avoid them due to maintainence/reliability issues. It doesn't mean that all of them will be like that, but as an owner, you have to admit that it's not the most reliable beast in town. . . if reliability were it's goal, I'm sure it would a much more mundane car. I have a few friends who are big on the Camaro scene, so I'm not just "hating" on domestics. . . they have their own place in my book.

They didn't merge! Daimler Chrysler would be an example of a merger. . . Toyota picking up shares in Subaru would be an example of the relationship between Audi and Lamborghini.

Audi actually builds the Gallardo I believe. I don't remember.

I will probly get flamed for this but I would take an Audi over any Scion anyday and I have owned 2 out of the 3 models both with forced induction. Dont get me wrong for the money you cant beat a good ol' tC or xB, even the xA grows on me more and more I see nice ones in my showroom, but the quality of an Audi's ride and feel inside the cabin is unsurpassed in that price range. I know it costs an arm and a leg to fix anything thats German but you get what you pay for ya know??

^i hear ya

former 1985 bmw 318i owner here. just gave it up about 2 years ago. the quality, ride, and feel inside a german german car is just something nice. the car was 20 years old with no rattles and leaks (that im proud of), perfect stereo system that still sounded amazingly good (for a 20 year old car), great handling with original shocks and springs, and perfect level of sound deadening. the only things that gave up were very minor things, like an interior door handle that finally snapped (replaced but was still operable) and a rear tail-light bulb. engine wise, it still pulled hard, with neglect towards engine maintenence until its last day (probably because it was a non-toyota and we're a hardcore toyota family lol). major cooling system failure (due to the neglect) ended up costing $$$ and we decided to just replace the car. but for 20 years, it felt like, sounded like, drove like a tiny vault.

ok back to topic, who else got their asses handed to them by an audi? lol.

They've been improving over the past few years. . . but I'm a Lexus fan for life. It was Lexus that opened my eyes to Toyota Motor Corp, and then Scion.

But if I wanted a sports sedan, I'd go BMW. They invented the category, and IMO still dominate. But if I just wanted a nice luxury car, with enough sportiness to keep me happy, I'd go Lexus. There is no half way for me.

I never liked how nose heavy their larger sedans are. BMW's have more neutral handling. And Lexus build quality blows them all completely away, although Lexus doesn't exactly build a sporty suspension, or anything near it.

and btw, i've never seen a cel lit up in that ole bimmer. and if it had a plastic water pump, well then that's a well made plastic pump. need i remind people of "20 years" again? the cooling system failure was exxagerated in my behalf- it was an original coolant hose that blew, which puts the blame on the hose maker.

not to glorify german cars and all... hell, my entire family has history with long-running toyotas. an uncle of mine owned our last 88 5s-fe toyota camry wagon and no breakdowns up to this date, even with a heavily-watered-down gas situation that just made it stall. has about 200,000 miles on it too.

i have a lot more amazing cases of car longevity from my family's toyotas and our old bimmer (which is just more expensive to maintain), only if you want me to further stray off topic... lol.

Man, depending on the mods yo have you should stick with cars you can hang with. With stock Tc, Cars like 05' and under Si's, RSX's ( not the type-s), integras (cept the rare Type-R's, non of those fake azz ones with aftermarket badges), civics. and if your efficient enogh with the standard, I raced a 1.8T jetta (twice) and smoked him both times, and i ran against my friend in a 01' Grand Am GT and we were really close.

i loved my a6, but couldn't smartly afford the payment. No major problems with it in 4 years either.

When I can afford one, I'll get an s4 in a heartbeat.

until then I'll keep cruising my clean, economic tc.

I raced a new S4 earlier this week in my WRX (ECU flash) to around 60mph and pulled a fender on him. Neither one of us launched, but the light turned green and we both floored it. By the top of first gear he had a nose slightly ahead, but in second I gained it back and put his nose to about the front of my wheelwell, then let off (35mph zone). I was surprised I kept up until I looked up some stats on the car. It's a heavy beast. I have no doubt it would *crush* me up over 90mph though.

They weren't really racing though. I thought he said he was just having fun. I've driven a 2001 Audi S4 bi-turbo with the 6-speed. I was going to buy it, but I thought it was too much maintainence. My boss had an Audi A4 and my friend had an Audi TT and they both told me that once their warranties were up, it was costing more to maintain it than their original monthly payments. But however, I'm thinking about buying another car again... I thought about just getting something reliable like a Lexus IS250 or an Acura TSX to drive to work, but I'd rather have something more fun... like a 1998 turbocharged E36 M3 Sedan rebadged to look like a 318.

Tired of that Miata already, eh?
Thats one of the things that is holding me up getting rid of my tC. I want an S4, but I know after the warranty is up, it's a beast of maintenance.

I want an M3, but as you and I both know, the new one is coming out soon, and it wouldn't be smart financially to buy one now.

I'm giving serious thought to finding an IS300 5 speed, and turboing it.
