Hey, I just got another xb yesterday (got my wife one last week) and I swear hers is a bit faster. They are both 2006 automatics too. I have never owned a brand new car before so maybe it has to break in and I dont know this? I have like 14 miles on it now from going home from the dealer. Her's had 54 miles already on it cuz we had it delivered from a farther city. Is this common?

I read a review of the updated 2006 xb that said it was dropping in hp form 108 to 103, due to emissions standards.
Might this be the issue?

Oh good. I'm glad to hear that they are lowering the power of the xB. Someone was going to get hurt in these rockets. :eyebrow:

There is NO drop in horsepower, it's just a different way of measuring it. By the way, the Toyota Yaris will use the same engine and it's rated 106 hp.

In my experience, some cars just feel more "peppy," even the same model and engine. No two cars will feel identical.

I would try adjusting the throttle cable, yours might have more slack. You can also check the tire pressure.

Are the cars the same? (options, wheels?) Same amount of gas in the tank? There's a lot of reasons why it might "feel" faster.

-THE DONAgreed. It can also depend on what song is playing on the radio.

oh. my. god.

NO drop in hp, just different SAE ratings. Please, PLEASE search next time you want to talk about hp ratings with the 03-05 and 06 models. There are way too many threads already posted about this, and has been discussed several times.

My mistake. I guess I mis-read that Edmunds article.

You are right:
"What's New for the 2006 Scion xB
....In other news, the xB's horsepower rating drops from 108 to 103 due to new SAE testing procedures."

Mods, might want to lock this thread, even delete it since theres so many SAE threads now. Just a suggestion. :lalala:

What are you talking about? Do not come in here saying something like that, all newbies will get confused.

NO car company is rating their hp at the wheels, they would lose sails like crazy. A stock XB manual comes in between 89-93whp, a automatic comes in between 85-90whp. Not 103whp. That would only be a -3hp drivetrain loss.

The VVT-i may have had a little more time to learn. Don't baBy it too much, teach it that you want to go...

They do get faster as they break in and loosen up. Mine has 2500 miles now and is faster and gets better mileage than before.

That is a bout 10% which is not too bad.....seen some drive trains suck up a lot more horsepower

i have a insaid source that is a retail trainer for south east toyota (the distruditer) he told me that they were rating the hp at the wheels... thats why all the toyota models are going down in hp (but not actualy going down)

Hes full of crap because 103hp is not at the wheels, no where near it. Think logical, a drivetrain loss is going to be alot more than 5hp. Thats virtually no drivetrain loss at all, its impossible for stock 108hp motor to put out 103hp.

Its not just toyota, its SAE ratings. That doesn't stand for Toyota National HP Ratings.
