Default 2006 tC acceleration, 2nd gear, and wearing shoes...help plz

Hi guys,

I got my tC back in early August, and it is a 06' manual trans. It was my first manual transmission, so it took awhile to learn. However, i think i know how to drive it ok at least. Anyways, it seems that auto trans cars around me can accelerate just as fast, or faster than me. I shift around 3000 rpms, could this be it? Do i have to go up to 4500-5000 rpms to accelerate faster? Am i doing something wrong?

Also, it seems to be hard to get from 3rd or 4th, back down into 2nd gear. Two times it has made a grinding sound, even though the clutch is all the way down. Is this stripping the gears, or just not in gear?

Finally, does anyone have trouble driving their manuals with shoes on? I have bigger feet (size 14), but i find that i must drive without my shoes on. The souls of my shoes catch the pedals to much and i cant shift well.

Thanks.

Dan

that grinding noise is call grinding gears try not to do that and dont down shift that far. also yes the higher the rpm the faster remember not 2 past 6krpm. the way i learn how to drive stick was each gear not 2 past more then 10-15mph without abuse. and if your at 4th gear down shift to 2nd depending on speed u will hurt ur trans

isn't 2nd everything under 20 mph? Should also learn to rev match if you haven't or double clutching for smoother engagment.

if i was right double clutch was really 4 some who clutch is going and you need to engage and disengage to have it 2 get into gear. and depends everyone knows that 1st 2nd and 3rd gears are really all the power is at and is stronger then 4th and 5th due to the size of the gear

Ok. You want to accelerate fast? REV your engine. Don't be afraid to. Someime when no one's around stomp it in second. Shift up at 5700 rpm's. Around there is the peak of the hp curve.

Secondly are you accidently letting yoru clutch out just before you're COMPLETELY in gear? Otherwise if you're doing everything right you should not have grindation. If you're missing shifts then maybe you should just let the car sit, while its off and practice moving the shifter.

Any other questions?

In fact even in my daily driving i usually shift at 4k rpms. Don't be afraid when the thing starts screaming. Well, if it starts screaming too loud then you might wanna shift.

I don't know about size 14, but don't try it in 3" heels!! The heel gets stuck on the floor mat - not good. In my experience as a "girl driver" the high rpm's will get you a cleaner shift but less MPG. It's a trade off.

You can take it up safely to 5500 rpm, also, there is no need for double clutching, none, nada, we have synchronizers.

I always thought double clutching was just used in racing to get a little bit of a boost. Someone care to explain?

How fast are you off the clutch? Auto cars can match you if your footwork isnt quick enough. Im still learning a perfect clutch balance myself. thats probably more important than what rpm you shift at. As for your grinding gears, make sure that your stick is all the way in gear and the clutch is down.

Usually for the shoe bit (i wear a 13) i just take off my right shoe, so that way it is free to press the gas and the brake. Your left foot you should only be using for the Clutch, so that shouldnt be getting in the way.

lol i do the same, i was used to doing so on my prelude with a 8.5lb flywheel and stage 1.. so i needed to rev it higher to go lol.. i still do it with the tc but try to chill as much as possible.

You can ride 2nd gear out to like 30-40mph, i forget exactly, but it states top gear speeds in your owners manual...

Double clutching in a fully syncro'd transmissing like the tc's is a COMPLETE waste of time and Totally unneccessary! BEfore you give advice, please check the accuracy of your comments!

Its known that rev matching will prolong the life of your transmission.

I have size 13 feet. It helps if you wear tennis shoes. I have some work boots that are just too wide to drive in.

When you are downshifting. You want to do this very quickly
clutch to the floor
rev it up
shift down.
clutch out

Not shift down then rev.. you can grind or have trouble getting it in gear.

Did you even test drive the car before you bought one? Why buy someting that you cant drive comfortably....

Anyway you are going slower that auto cars because you are feets not quick enough. Your clutching is too slow. Don't pop the clutch but you should let it out as fast as you can. I have no problem beating auto cars and I shift aroun 3k rpm.

He's just new to cars and driving them.

Stomp on the gas, and the motor will start to pull. Shift at redline for maximum acceleration.

If you're cruising, easy on the gas and shift at 3k.
