Fuel Grade?
I thought the Scion xB runs on regular unleaded and not premium. On fueleconomy.gov, it lists it as regular, but on the timing belt or timing chain thread, someone says it is 91 octane instead of 87 octane.

When we bought our xB, every question we asked had to be re-asked to the manager. EVERY QUESTION. And the bad thing was that the salesman owned an xB himself and still couldn't answer the questions! I have nothing against you Peruzzi, but I really wish Toyota would do more to educate their sales staff.
I understand this is a 'friendly' bet between two co-workers, and commend you for getting an answer and learning about the cars, but what if it had been a customer asking about the timing chain? It just seems that Toyota is happy with letting the sales staffs get by with 'just memorizing' the broshures and there is SOO much more info that buyers want.
BTW...you never mentioned it...which did YOU think it was before this thread? LOL

the xA and xB need regular (87)
read your owners manual.
Nods, x_rated711 was taken out of context. The 1.5L xB uses 87 octane. From what I understand the JDM model 1.1 and 1.3 versions use a different octane. For the USDM release of the 1.5L it's always been 87.
dgHotLava, Thanks for correcting me on the car make in question.
x_rayted711, sorry for the misinterpretation. I thought we were talking about the Scion xBs and didn't realize you were talking about the XRS.

i run 89 but only because its cheaper here. 87 works just fine. and for clarification sproket, i believe in Japan they have 1.3 and 1.5, not 1.1 and 1.3. The 1.5 is the upgrade engine vs. the 1.3

He may have said 91 research octane which translates to 87. I got confused about this subject when I got my new bike and the owners manual started talking about fuel in terms of research octain. I researched the subject and found out I actually needed to run 93 octain because of the high performance nature of the beast.

i ended up using 91 or 93 octane moving out to WA from VA because of the mountain passes. Other than that its back down to mid grade. I would pay the .3 or .5 cents extra for midgrade anyways....
