Default ugh -- brake rotor swap. what am i doing wrong?

i did try a couple of searches for a how to on changing the brake rotors... only one i found was for the xA.

i've got a wheel off the car and i THOUGHT i only had to undo 4 bolts holding the caliper in place. once they were off, the rotor should come right off. but it doesn't. something is clearly holding it in place and i can't figure out what.

help?

there should be a large nut that may be held in by a cotter pin. you have to take that off and that will let the rotor and bearings come off. i could be wrong but see if thats the case

ok... let me ask the obvious blonde question: what's a cotter pin? i do see threads and a strange looking nut at the center of the hub. the threads have a channel through them and the strange nut has a crimp in it to prevent it from turning along the threads. is THAT what you are talking about?

cotter pin looks likea bobby pin... "whats a booby pin" its that thing girls use in their hair to bust a pompadeur... "whats a pompadeur" lets not get into it anyway get a wire cutter and pull straight out... CAUTION: cotter pins are one time use once pulled out make sure to have an extra handy to swap in its place

The cotter pin does not need to be removed. The rotor is a separate assembly from the hub. What has happened is the rotor is connected snugly to the hub by some rust. Spray some WD40 or penetrating lube on the rotor where it touches the hub snout, also spray the gaps between the rotors and wheel studs and in the little holes that are drilled into the rotors between the hub snout and wheel studs. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and give them a good whack with a hammer and they will come right off. Mine did the same thing as did Taek's car so it seems to be a common deal on the tCs.

correct.

do not touch the cotter pin or the castle nuts (one could lefty thread anyways...)

get some WD40, tap it on the top and bottom from the backside. should knock it loose.

if there is 2 hose next to the studs use 2 12mm bolts and then screw it on to lose the rust from the rotor to the hub

What rotors did you get to replace the stocks? This will probably be my next upgrade/mod. The rotors I'm looking at, most places only have the pair for the rear rotors. Time for a dumb ? : Does anybody know if there's a difference between the front & rear rotors?

Front and rear rotors are different in almost every way. If you are having problems finding rotors, they are identical as those in the Celica GT-s in the front and rear. You may want to contact Paul at Dezod about getting some replacement rotors...I know they carry those parts.

i got the rotors from r1 concepts in anaheim, ca.

still haven't installed them. i have a spring installation to happen any day now, so i've gotten lazy and decided to wait and only remove the wheels once for the two combined.

use a c-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper body.

I think it speaks for itself, but test the brakes before you drive it on public roads.
