AEM intake just for looks? or is there power?
Real fast. I'm detailing my engine bay and I know the AEM cold air intake looks great and is the largerst one you can buy that seems to be the most effective.
But I read only 1-3 more horsepower? I this thing more for looks than function?
I don't know if I want to blow 200 bucks for 3 horsepower.... 66 bucks per hp?
your feed back would help greatly and any links about this topic previously post would be great as well...
thanks

I personally have the Injen setup..both intake and exhaust. Header... well thats a different story... from most of what Ive seen and heard, if you modify that, your car will no longer be street legal...because that is where Toyota put the sensor.... the aftermarket headers Ive seen for the tC's do not allow for this sensor to be reinstalled. sure it gives a decent gain in hp, but depends on how you're going to use the car. I have personally got dyno results from my Injen modifcations that give me around 15-18hp gains. not bad for an afternoon install that you can do yourself.

I've got AEM intake.
A lot of people like Injen around here.
The AEM has a real subtle sound to it. It gets pretty obvious at around 2 3/4 RPM and up.
Probably won't rock your world, but I think it's worth the two hundred.

Injen gets the most gains on dyno's I believe, i got it just because the price was around 150 or so which was not bad, its a well made intake...some people copy it so it must be good...but honestly I dont think you can go wrong with intakes....
If your really into looks that can of course alter what you may choose, the Fujita one looks very nice I think as well, and they give you a couple of free things I think (i like free stuff lol)
I'm happy with the Injen, but I am more happy having the intake + exhaust + header all together....I love driving my box even more now.
AEM - I think good product, usually hear good things about it

You won't notice an increase in power on your "butt" dyno with just a cold air intake. However, all will sound a little different, and everyone will say they like the way one sounds better than the other. I say go with whatever cold air intake looks the best for your purposes. If you are detailing your engine bay, looks first, sound and performance second. The differences in sound between different CAIs won't be too drastic for the payoff you get in looks and cohesion.

As far as an intake goes you really can't go wrong if you stick to the big names like AEM or Injen ect. The AEM is a factory part (if purchased from a dealer) and it have an air bypass valve. If you have a ton of rain or if you plan on driving your box into a lake it's not a bad thing to have. The Injen short ram does net the biggest HP gain out of the 4 intakes tested. I think it was about 4.5hp or so and the AEM was 3.5-4hp on a dyno. I can tell you that I've personally driven an xB with the AEM and one the the Injen and they fell pretty much the same. They are both an inprovement over stock and help the throttle response greatly. I have read that some don't notice it at all but I'm not one of them. I have 4 local guys with either the AEM or the Injen and they love their intakes. I would say go with the Injen sri because it's the best bang for the buck.

I would never spend $150+ for an Injen SRI on an xB. Not when you can get an identical intake with just as high of quality for about $50 (YDR).
Instead, I would recommend the intake that I bought for my wife's car, the Fujita F5. Unfortunately, it wasn't around when the dyno shoot-out was done way back when.
The Fujita utilizes a different design than Injen, which in my opinion is superior. The intake sells for $170-$180 and comes with nicer clamps and better hoses than just about any other intake on the market. A duffle bag, hat and spare filter are also included in the box. Of all the intakes I have ever owned, the Fujita is probably the nicest.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Well I took my stock air box out and I made my own intake pipe out of pvc, some end adapters, and a k&n style air filter. It cost me under $10 bucks, and it works great and it took me about an hour. I made a hole for the air flow sensor and I put a air breather on the end of the breather hose for the head. Easiest mod and most effective I've ever done. All I have left to do is have my buddy paint it at work and I'm all set. Saved my self a lot of money and it will look and work great too.
I would suggest for everyone to make their own instead of spending over 30 bucks to buy one off ebay....good luck and thanks for everyones input.

LOL... well the pvc pipe left alone sure wouldn't look like much! After it's custom painted and the sensor is molded in it will just look like a pipe....not very noticable at all considering it is at a low angle...
