Default Q about DVD unit for the tC (please keep in PNW Forum!!)

Mods: Please keep this in the local room. This question is just as much about "will it fit?" as it is about "Who could do it and how much you want?"

That being said...

Getting my tax refund in a few days and I've been looking at units like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LM650...QQcmdZViewItem
or...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting
and what I'd like to know is:

WILL IT FIT in the tC? And would I need to change anything else?

Obviously for BETTER sound I could change some things, but would factory speakers and sub be able to cut it?
Or do I HAVE to go and buy other things as well to make it work.
(I'm a complete IDIOT when it comes to car audio stuff)

If it DOES/WOULD fit:

WHo in this area could/would install it for me (since I'm a total idiot about this stuff) and how much $ would you want?

(Now do you see why I want this to stay in the local rooms?)

Thanks for your help everyone, and thank you mods as well!

Brad, as per the rules that everyone has to ahere to , I have to move this to the ICE section. Besides, you'll most likely get a better response and more inforamtion over there.

I will leave a link here though.

I'm not much of an automotive video kinda guy, but if you were looking into changing speakers and adding subs, you should look into component systems with an external amp and an amp to power the sub as well....

Either will work. You will just have to adjust the mounting brackets if you want the door to close still. I can help you with it if you like.

Looking like its a "off-name" brand(at least i didnt see a brand name in the ad)... i'm not too positive in my install abilities.... but provided it has good install directions.. it shouldn't be too hard to do.... just need a wiring harnes... and maybe some fill spacers to fill in the open gaps on the sides and your good to go....
installing is pretty easy actually.... unless your color blind.. its just matching up wire colors and labels...

pending time/when etc..... i may be able to help out...

^^ I'm colorblind.... but generally, the wires will have printing on them showing what it goes to... (L.R+,Ign.,12+, etc.)

all it is then is looking in the HU's instructions and getting what colors I can from there.... I usually have my fiancee identify the colors....

The colors don't always match up. You have to follow the wiring guide and printed wires to match properly. Not to hard still and the system ussually comes with a trim piece to fill the gaps.

You can get a jensen for a couple more bucks, and they have a little better reliability than off name ones. You can see it at circuit city too, play around before you buy.

Fitment should be fine, but as most people have done you may have to drill a few extra holes in the mounting brackets to push the HU back a bit so the door closes. As far as wiring, that should be easy. As long as the HU comes with a sheet telling you which wires are what for the harness it will come with. Then you have two options, hardwire the harness that plugs into the new HU into the stock vehicle wiring by cutting off the stock connectors, or buy a harness kit from some place like crutchfield/car toys, and plug that into the vehicle harness and then solder/crimp that into the harness that comes with the new HU. I've done all the HU installs on my past vehicles, and usually go the route of getting a wiring kit to plug into the vehicle harness, and then solder that into the harness that comes with the new HU. This way its easy to put the original HU back in the car if you ever think about trading it in and/or selling the car.

Let me know either way, I can help as well and well, live close to where you work!

Oh, and if I remember right, you have the factory sub, which I can tell you right now, these HU's you are looking at do NOT have the connector for. So as far as getting that sub working with the new HU, I have no clue.

I'm inclined NOT to trust it because it looks like a cheap knockoff. It doesn't even say the brand!

I'm starting to really like the Jensen one as well, but part of the reason I was liking the above linked ones is because my return is $1200 and I didn't want to sped more than half (the rest is already devoted to other things)

Hmm... Maybe I should just hold off on this for a while and do some other, smaller things first...

Any suggestions for units around 500-600?
