I ordered the AEM Cold air intake, and I dont want any engine heat to interfere with its performance/ funcionality. Will the heat shield do anything besides sit there pretending to do somthing for my hp?

it'll..shield heat from your filter... But for a "C"AI, I don't see why you'd need a heatshield...

Yes he is correct....if you want the piece of mind get thermal wrap...that will shield from any heat you might think will get to it

I had one custom made for my S2000, and I'm going to do the same for my xA.

The function is to reduce heat soak to the incoming air. The heat shield needs to be between the engine and the intake.

If you look at the pic, between the STB and the intake filter canister, there is a carbon kevlar heat shield (it has 4 aluminum rivets on it). It has an aluminum reflective material on the back, and it works very well!

Cool but why not use headder wrap it would be more effective. Of course I dont really care what the car looks like under the hood just how it runs.

I care about how it looks because I enter it in car shows.

The header wrap that I've seen would add weight to the intake, which can result in excess vibration/oscillation of the unit. There is no support on the velocity stack end of the unit, it's not necessary.
