I am running a poll to see if anyone would be interested in adopting a highway. I think it would be a good thing that we could all do to get more involved, and um, spend some quality time together risking our lives for the sake of our roadways. But seriously, it wouldn't be dodging traffic for stuff in the roadways, just on the sides. Anyway, I figured I would throw it out there to see who catches.
Thanks.

If you call and you get a voice mail from a chick named Sherri, leave a message because my phone comes in today and I haven't changed the message yet.

it's a pretty good idea, but I'm not sure they let you go out and actually pick up trash anymore. i thought I heard it was donations. Even if you do pick up trash I think it's only once every month or two.

check this link: http://www.azdot.gov/Highways/AdoptAHwy/Volunteer.asp#Vol
looks like you can volunteer to pick up trash a minimum of twice a year. somebody :cough: dan :cough: should call the Phoenix district office and see what's up

Can I be a fair-weather supporter? My ___ isn't going to be out on the freeway when it's 120 effin degrees out!

Can I be a fair-weather supporter? My butt isn't going to be out on the freeway when it's 120 effin degrees out!
Try following the paver, sticking the thermometer into the hopper to make sure the asphalt is between 270 and 300 degrees. Makes you forget that it's 120 outside. I actually had the glue melt on a pair of boots. I walked right off of the soles.
Pickin up litter on the side of the highway is nothing. I spent one summer on a survey crew finding, locating, and marking every manhole, water valve cover, and marker on Grand Ave. Those people actually tried to run us over.

who cares how hot it is? this is a kind gesture and should make everybody feel all warm inside (and blazing hot on the outside).

I called Mark and Adopt a Highway and left a message. It says we are only obligated for two years, and pickup is only twice out of the year unless otherwise specified, probably certain areas require cleaning more often.
One of the requirements is that we need a group of at least 6 to 10, for each cleanup. The best part, we get really cool vests, comeon you know you want to.
What should we have them put on the sign? I NEED IDEAS!!!

When we adopted up near Heber, they only give you a mile at a time. I believe that might be the same here as well.

Toyota is very community driven and they have given back so much to the people of the communities around the dealers and factories and such, I think it would be awesome for us to show the same!

i think having it read Scionetics.com would be the best fitting if we end up adopting a part of the freeway.

I spoke with Mark at ADOT. He has us on the waiting list, but could be a couple of months, unless we would like to do something real close to Globe, or Prescott and such. I think the closest I could get at this moment would be heading toward Payson, on the beeline somewhere.

You get off of the 202 east at Country Club, and go left at the light under the freeway. To head towards Payson, just keep driving straight. You also eventually pass through fountain hills and fort mcdowell casino, also on the way to the salt river. I think it would be fun to even do up near Payson. If we did that, we wouldn't even need to worry about the heat all that much during the summer, as it stays pretty nice. Just make a day trip of it, hour up, couple hours there, hour back. Think of it as a long cruise around Phoenix, about the same amount of time. Anyway, if anyone would like to do real close to Payson, or even prescott, I can call the offices in those towns and set something up, Im sure there is no waiting list there. Can you believe there is an actual waiting list to do this sort of thing?

I think Payson could be cool too because there are no Scion dealers in the white mountain area, they would trip out.

My father-in-law has a place in Strawberry, not too far from Payson. If you go up the other way (through Camp Verde), there are some nice curvy mountainish roads.
