I am running a poll to see if anyone would be interested in adopting a highway. I think it would be a good thing that we could all do to get more involved, and um, spend some quality time together risking our lives for the sake of our roadways. But seriously, it wouldn't be dodging traffic for stuff in the roadways, just on the sides. Anyway, I figured I would throw it out there to see who catches.

it's a pretty good idea, but I'm not sure they let you go out and actually pick up trash anymore. i thought I heard it was donations. Even if you do pick up trash I think it's only once every month or two.

looks like you can volunteer to pick up trash a minimum of twice a year. somebody ough: dan ough: should call the Phoenix district office and see what's up

(sorry about the three posts in a row, I got kids trying not to get ready for bed, belching and farting, and all kinds of insanity going on right now)

 

i would probably be the one to go in the middle of the highway and dodge traffic......

I did enough trash picking up from freeways when I was locked up, but atleast I made 50 cents an hour. LOL

 

Try following the paver, sticking the thermometer into the hopper to make sure the asphalt is between 270 and 300 degrees. Makes you forget that it's 120 outside. I actually had the glue melt on a pair of boots. I walked right off of the soles.

Pickin up litter on the side of the highway is nothing. I spent one summer on a survey crew finding, locating, and marking every manhole, water valve cover, and marker on Grand Ave. Those people actually tried to run us over.

 

who cares how hot it is? this is a kind gesture and should make everybody feel all warm inside (and blazing hot on the outside).

 

I agree with xb_stud. Can we adopt a pool afterwards?

I called Mark and Adopt a Highway and left a message. It says we are only obligated for two years, and pickup is only twice out of the year unless otherwise specified, probably certain areas require cleaning more often.

One of the requirements is that we need a group of at least 6 to 10, for each cleanup. The best part, we get really cool vests, comeon you know you want to.

What should we have them put on the sign? I NEED IDEAS!!!

 

When we adopted up near Heber, they only give you a mile at a time. I believe that might be the same here as well.

Toyota is very community driven and they have given back so much to the people of the communities around the dealers and factories and such, I think it would be awesome for us to show the same!

 

i think having it read Scionetics.com would be the best fitting if we end up adopting a part of the freeway.
