Rumor has it that 2006 is the last year for the xA and xB.

Just bought my xA. The dealer said that this year was the last year for production for three years. They will then produce another run, then cease production for three more years.....etc. etc.
Said they are doing this to keep our cars unique and retain trade in value.

The tC has only been out 2 years, not 3, so if that's true then tC will run till 07.

That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Why would they give away the market share they've worked so hard to build?

Well, the 3 year for each car thing was what Scion originaly said when the 1st came out, but I think they have changed their plans, I guess we'll have to see...

I can see them changing the cars every 3 years but not stopping production. I see xB's every where. Toyota would be NUTS to stop that money train. They should just do some modest redesign to keep the segment fresh.

they'll probably introduce some redesigned vehicle into the line up with similar options and based off from customer response.

Clairfy: I bought an xA. The dealer was talking about xA's. I don't know anything about the tC. They may or may not do the same thing with them......I don't know.

Well, when I was in Phoenix, I met a few of the Scion corp. people and the question about the lines being dropped or suspended was brought up and the ones i talked to said they had no plans of changing anything right now. They may be holding back, but thats the ground they took when I asked. I don't care if they halted production or changed it drasticly, makes mine more different, the less they make the rarer it will be down the road.

I bet if they do change the line it will be to add a hybrid to the range of vehicles and maybe drop the xA, since it doesn't sell as well as the other two.

Hope not, though...

They'll never tell you. When do they ever tell you?

If you're worried about buying a car that will become an older generation too soon, toyota worries about customers thinking like that too, so they just surprise you.

i disagree. planned "style obsolescence" is already built into the marketing of autos and it killed the american market because everyone always had the "old body style".

a yearly change would kill the models. the reason mercedes built their market internationally during that time was planned non-obsolescence. they kept their cars the same year in and year out....someone owning a 1986 had the "new" body style in 1990 (with minor changes that average non-aficionados didn't catch).

"look" changes of successful models kill sales for the most part. who wants an "old body style" of a yadayada when the new one is out already? nothing ticks off an american consumer more than having the last production year of the old body style with four more years til it's paid off when the new one is driving around .

scion would do well to keep the bodies similar with small changes that older body style owners could upgrade to.

jmo.
