ive been looking and pricing audio stuff and i was wondering how this set up would sound. any input would be great, im a noob when it comes to subs and amps. i want the sound and feel of an 800 watt 12 inch sub but at half that power or less because idont wanna buy a cap... anyways tell me if this will get me close to what i want.

well there it is tell me what u guys think...

1) If you want the sound of a single 12 with an 800 watt amp, then that's what you need to buy....

2)capacitors are widely mis-used by people thinking it will help with dimming lights... dimming lights are caused by voltage drops and a capacitor isn't going to be able to sustain any more voltage than the stock setup (if it does, it will only be for a few milliseconds)

3) don't buy ANY pre-fabricated ported box unless it's built and tuned to your specific subwoofers thiele/small parameters

4) What budget TOTAL (and for what equipment) are you looking at? I'm 100% positive all of us can help you make a better decision...

I'm not trying to be rude at all, but ask as many questions as needed for you to help yourself understand different concepts and in's/out's of car audio...


Edit: BTW, my tC handles 800 watts with no dimming.... chris(mandos)'s tC has had 1200 watts with no issues.... don't be afraid to get what you want...

ok my budget is 300 to 400 dollers i would like to stay closer to 300 though. any ides are great im gonna build my box to spec. i have the wood working know how and the tools to do it no biggie there

Caps aren't a gimmick if they're used correctly... they're supposed to be used for transient peaks at normal listening levels... if your lights dim when you crank the hell out of it, then that's a problem with voltage supply meaning the best remedies are: Big3 upgrade, new battery, new/rewound alternator in that order

ive never seen these subs before.. how good are they? tehy almost look my like my friends wall mart special.... i dont know anything about subs though....

I'm running 2 Elemental Design's Eu-700's (6.5") in a 30Hz ported box and they pound really nicely... you'll be a LOT happier with the sound/performance with eD's 13Kv.2 rather than the kicker comp...

ok so my next questions how should i wire this sub up to the amp you guys recomended and should i build a ported box or a sealed box?

depending on which amp and which sub configuration...

If you get the Hifonics amp I listed, you'll need a dual 2 ohm sub wired in parallel to get 1ohm mono at the amp...

If you get the Elemental Designs nine.2 amp with the 13Kv.2 sub, you'll still need a dual 2 ohm sub, but you'll have to wire it in series to get a 4ohm mono load

a sealed box will have a little tighter and more level sound but the ported box will be louder... I personally love the sound of ported boxes... and they're more fun to build..

so to wire in parallel i sent my positive and negitive form teh amp to one of the terminal sets tehn i take to more iwres and connect the two terminals together right....

again, with the Hifonics amp, you need parallel... with the elemental designs amp, you need series.... either way, you need a dual 2 ohm sub

so i have to bridge the amp then at the sub connect the first set of terminals toe the amp and then with the seconds set of terminals i connect the positive to the negitive... got it. so that covers subs amps and wiring. and i wont need a cap. so teh box... any one got instructions for a tuned box i think im gonnan go ported

well.... you've almost got it.... connect the + and - from the bridged amp to the + on one set of terminals and the - on the other set of terminals.... then connect the remaining + and - together.... with a dual 2 ohm sub, that will give you a 4 ohm mono load at the amp

exactly.... caps are there for when you get that one big hit of bass.. if you turn on your radio and the lights dim righy away then you have a problem... with a correctly built box you can have an 8 inch sub hit as hard as a 12 inch sub... the box makes a lot of difference.. buy a sub then get a box built to the specs of that sub... my opinion...

^^ not quite.... not a big bass hit... small transient spikes are where a cap comes in use... basically never...


The box I posted is an eD box tuned to the thiele/small parameters of the eD 13Kv.2

^^ it's possible.... I know the eD line of stuff can hold their own... and with that box design, it'll hit good and low and really make you appreciate the bass!!

right on he has a nissan altima and he thinks his alpine is the best 12 possible i think it owuld be funny if i pay half of what he did and get something jsut as good.

eD amps are conservatively rated...@12v.

They are even stronger at 13-14v typical car running voltage. CEA rated amps are rated power @14.4v already. My 2-11kv2s are loud and hit hard off bridged nine.2x/600wrms. Very efficient.
