Default Installing subs in my tC - will these fit?

Hello everyone, my buddy just gave me a box that has 2 x 12" subs and an amp to go with it. He had these subs in the trunk of a civic and I didn't really realize how big they were until I stuck 'em in my trunk.

First, we tried to put them in with the subs pointing towards the interior (opposite of the direction pictured):

But, the trunk won't close. The back seats were reclined, so we pushed them up and it's still about an inch to deep.

So, next we flipped it pointing it upwards:

The trunk closes but the seats can't recline. Additionally, when the trunk is closed, you can see the fat sub pokin up behind the back seats because i had to remove the carpet cover which hid your trunk when your hatch was closed. I don't want my car to be a target to some stereo theif.

I told my buddy a long time ago that I would take them, and he's waited around for me to pick the stuff up. So, i don't really want to give it back to him. Plus, they are nice subs and they didn't cost me a lick!

What do you guys think I should do?
In the tC, how will the sub sound best? pointed in which direction?

Hope to hear some good ideas,
Mike

I say...take out the subs. Build your own enclosure or buy one from someone such as QuarterWaveDesigns or AudioFormz or even elemental designs(don't know the url). They all have enclosures. Cardomain.com even has the prebuilt ones that will run you around 50-100. Just change the box and you are golden. Sell the box on E-bay or to a friend if you need to for a lil cash.

please, i beg of you do NOT put that crap in your trunk...that will look so horrible - imho the only way you could pull a system off in the tC is to have custom work done for fitting

LOL, fo' sho'. I talked to a buddy and we're going to rebuild the box from scratch - it will fit clean. Those pre-fab boxes, can you still recline the seats? Basically, with the new design we're going to cut and measure it so that it fits low and will let the seats recline.

haha... looking at the mess the only thing i could think before was somehow to remove the spare tire for the added cargo space so that it would sit lower...

but RoswellScion, if you could let me know if the prefab still allows back seats to recline - because thats my favorite feature.

As soon as we finish, i'll post the pics - it will make a nice before and after. lol.

btw: here's the link to Elemental Design - http://www.edesignaudio.com/ ?

Thanks for the other links though, they will give me some good ideas.

Yes, a prefab box will still allow your seats to recline.

For them to recline, you need a box of less than or equal to these dimensions:

14" tall(to be under the "deck lid")
36"wide(left to right)
20"long(front to back)

This one's close:

Perfect:

Bandpass and fits:

Ported and fits:

(this one may not fit...the review at the bottom questions the dimensions given by the site_

These are just a few examples. Hope these help.

Thought I'd reply to this specific question, just in case you don't go for a custom enclosure as others are suggesting...for many good reasons.

The answer to your question is, try it different ways and decide what sounds best to you. This is the case for everyone, every car and every enclosure. There are some rules you can follow to get the most bass possible out of a system, but with an enclosure like yours, the position choices are very limited.
