I'm waiting for a new CKP sensor to arrive at the dealership, which will hopefully resolve my hard starting issues. I'm wondering where this sensor is out of curiosity, and if it's possible it went bad by one of those car washes that spray water underneath the car (if that's where it's located). Basically, I'm trying to determine the cause of its failure, and how to prevent it from happening again. It is possible it's just a one-in-a-billion chance that my car had a bad sensor - I've seen no posts on here or EchoDrivers about any bad CKP's.

My car had a hard time firing up this morning, it took about 15 cranks to get it to sputter, and it did set off another check engine light (dealer cleared the last one after ordering a new CKP). Same code: P0335 (CKP). I'm sorta worried that this little troublesome sensor may leave me stranded somewhere, since our Distributorless Ignition System relies heavily on the CKP for timing, i.e. no CKP signal, no spark or fuel.

Anyway, if anyone knows where this little bugger is, I'd really like to know.

 

raise your scion
take out the passenger wheel
look to the crankshaft pulley and tadaaaaaa
there is the CKP sensor

I just got the CKP sensor replaced today at the dealer. Since then, I've started my car about 4 times, and each time it fired up quickly within 5 cranks or so. Hopefully this fixes my hard starting issue I've had since I bought the xA four months ago.
