Default mp3's and playlists-how do you do it?

I have the stock 06 head. I can burn mp3's and they play great on the unit. But I cant seem to get the playlist (folders) to work on the player. How do you get playlists to come up on the head? I guess I am asking how do you burn the cd to get the folder feature to work?
thanks in advance.

I don't know anything about that, but would you be willing to try iTunes?
It's free...let me know - have to run out for a while, but I"ll be back to try and help you out.

I appreciate that. Sure I would be willing to try. If it works on the stock player, I would use it.

If it's not an iPod, it won't work directly, but you can burn CDs with playlists on it...
Not sure if that's OK with you, and maybe someone who knows your software can say if it burns MP3 CDs with playlists and can avoid the iTunes step.

Dont burn them as playlists, burn them as folders. I just simply use windows. Choose what files I want and copy and paste them into a new file. I then divide them up into Genre or whatever and make new folders and name them whatever I want. Just like you would do with pictures or any computer file.

Then Cut all the folders and paste them to a blank disk. Burn the disk.
Put the CD in the car and use the folder button to thumb through your folders, ude the track to thumb through tacks in your folders.
Let me know if that helps.

that's a really good question.. do playlists work on the stock unit? all i've ever noticed is that it alphabetizes everything.. anyone want to try a playlist and see if the stock HU works with it?

The manual says it will work but I have not had any luck. I realize I am a novice to mp3's but I do know computers. I make folders and can not get it to recognize on the head. Got to be doing something wrong.

hey we're all novices at one time or another.. i don't know about the playlists.. but I do know that you should burn the cd as a DATA CD and then just put all your folders or files on the list and burn.. also make sure that you select the feature to "CLOSE disc" before burning (there will be an option for it).. those two things will stop you from playing the disc..

I noticed that when using Nero burning software that using the MP3 cd feature doesn't burn right, but using the DATA CD option works fine..

Okay I just re-read your first post.. you're asking about folders? That's simple, just drag and drop the folders into where you're creating the contents of the CD that you're about to burn. I've done it many times, it's very simple.. try the DATA CD feature if you have it and let us know

you're a genius!!!!!!!!!
The data cd method works perfectly and the folder feature works on the head. I used an older version of Roxio.
Its like having 10 or more music cd's on one disk.
thanks for the help!!

Yeah i think it's the way it formats a so-called "MP3 disc" in the burning software that doesn't set up the files just right. but the data cd doesn't add anything to it..anyway, it works now!! see? like i said once you get the hang of it, it's not difficult at all..

great!! glad it worked out for you!!

The stock head plays mp3 and wma files (as well as standard music cd)
It does not play aac for ipod files.

I have been putting one to two dozen oongs (an album) on each file but I dont know that is matters much. It is just convenience and how you want the disk.

This is why anyone and everyone who installs iTunes needs to change the import method from the default "AAC Encoder" to "MP3 Encoder" as soon as they install the program. MP3 files are simply more universal. They will play on any digital audio player and any mp3 head unit.
