MP3 Jukebox into Satellite Controls?
Here's a question for the group...
This is a nice-to-have that's somewhere on my wish list. I have no idea whether such a thing even exists. Hoping you can tell me.
I have no interest in XM radio. However, I hate to see that satellite interface go to waste. What I'm looking for is some type of MP3 jukebox that would interface into the satellite radio controls. That way, I could control the MP3 jukebox via the controls on the (stock) stereo, have the song info displayed on the LCD screen, etc.
Yes, I can make MP3 CD's no problem, and I do, but I really want to take my entire MP3 library with me in one container, not on 20-30 MP3 disks.
I could probably be happy if they had just provided a LINE IN jack on the front on the stereo so I could plug in my existing jukebox, but they don't. (I tried and hate those jukebox FM converters -- they're weak and cumbersome and the batteries wear out -- or if you don't use batteries, it's even MORE cumbersome.)
Here's an easier option: Is there any converter I can buy that would simply turn my XM Satellite option into a bare-bones LINE IN jack? Then at least I could run a line in cable to my jukebox...
Any help is appreciated.

I've been contemplating how to get an auxillary input for the stock HU also. Here are some products I've come across but haven't found out if they really work like they say they do.

If anyone has used these products, let us know how they work.

Very cool, thanks for the input. I guess my question is -- this device is supposed to go into the "cd changer" port for my stereo. But I already have the standard 1-CD drive, not the CD changer. So, the question is, if I plug this in, and it becomes the "CD Changer", will the internal CD drive become inoperative, thinking that it now has a CD-changer instead? I guess that would be OK...
Too bad I don't have an iPod -- for that, they have an ultra nifty unit that does just what I was looking for:

I found this one in the same site. Unless I'm mistaken, this would also just plug into the back of the pioneer stereo CD-changer port on the Scion xB.

Any thoughts?
First of all, how does one go about removing the Pioneer radio/stereo, to look at the back of it and see if it has this type of port?
Thanks,
Ralph E

I haven't ever removed my radio but I've read in other posts here that our pioneers don't have the IP-bus ports.
As for the internal CD player becoming disabled when you connect up the adapters, I would doub't that would occur. If you are seriously interested in this, I would contact the maker of that aux input adapter and ask them.

well, renone, that was less than helpful, I must say, but hopefully this will be more so:
This is the actual product I ended up ordering:
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pietoy03aux.html
I have confirmed with the vendor it should work fine. I expect it in on Friday and will report back when it's installed.
It's $20-$30 cheaper than any other solutions I found, and also "cleaner" in that it doesn't require an adapter cable. Should hook up my portable MP3 player just fine, I hope.
BTW, the folks at logjamelectronics were incredibly helpful with presales tech support. Actually answered every one of my multiple e-mail questions quickly and intelligibly -- what a concept, I know. Compared to some other vendors, who shot back with terse non-helpful blurts such as "check port on radio" -- honest, that was their complete response to my mildly lengthy, multi-part question...
Hope that helps

Thanks, I saw that, too bad my MP3 player is not an IPOD. Won't interface with anything else, not like with the POD.
For the cost differential of the IPOD they should GIVE you s**t like that FREE...
Still, it's very very cool.
Anybody know of a POD-compatible portable MP3 jukebox that would interface like that? That's really where the future is -- an MP3 jukebox that is equally at home on your belt buckle, in your car, in your home rack -- and it should be controlled via the CD Changer controls on your car stereo!!!! With ID3 info display!!!! C'mon, how hard can it be??

I'm assuming this will activate the SAT button on the HU and fool it into being an AUX input.
I would like to know if that adapter fits too... I have the stock single disc HU (tC).

Please let me know if it works, and how well it works. Pictures of your install if possible.
Thanx.

I have ordered and recieved the following...

Now I have it installed and I cant figure out what to do next. I figured that I would need to use the "SAT" function to get the audio. When I press the sat button nothing happens. Please help!

OK, I received and installed the --

Works fine, just as advertised. I didn't really see where to mount it, so I just tossed it up behind (actually in front of) the radio somewhere. Haven't driven around yet, so I hope it doesn't rattle around too much.
What I did was, I took an ordinary 3.5mm stereo-phono-plug-to-dual-RCA-plugs adapter cable (radio shack standard) and ran it from the pietoy03aux device, down into the single-DIN bay below the heater controls (the one with the door that pops open.) I had to drill some holes to get the cable into there, but now...
... now I can just plug my RCA Lyra RD2840 mp3 jukebox into the cable and shove it into that single-DIN drawer. I can even close the door. Works great. Actually with the Lyra, there are a couple of options for "mounting" (ha ha) -- stick it in the drawer, with the door open OR closed, OR you can kind of prop up the Lyra on TOP of the drawer as its open, seems stable and looks nice -- that way you can keep on eye on the display.
And as someone already noted, to use it, you just hit the DISC button on the stereo multiple times to toggle between the internal drive and the "changer"...
Too bad, though, like I say, that the "changer" has all these nice controls and displays on the stereo, that DON'T DO ANYTHING. If only someone would make a reasonably priced (i.e. not an iPod) MP3 jukebox that would interface with these controls, I would buy it in a heartbeat. -- Anybody know of one?
Cheers,
Ralph
