Caps are a waste of money. They actually cause more drain on your system in many cases

uh, no.

Here's some links explaining the benefits of capacitors in car audio.

I guess it depends on how big (power hungry) your amp is.

I run a Memphis Baby Belle (600W Total) in my xB and don't need a cap. I have a friend running 2000 watts... he has caps on both amps.

um no.

caps will pull energy till the cap is full. once it is full it cant pull anymore energy there for it CANT drain your system.

rule of thumb
1 farad per 1000w

I am running two amps at 700w each, each amp has a 1.2 tsunami cap

I never head of that brand, so i hope it works for ya, but i would be very careful with buying caps, they can get VERY dangerious if installed wrong, tampered with wrong, and if its a cheap cap... i have seen them blow up, which is a BIG bang

just becareful is my best advice...

A cap basically acts as a bandaid that will give you a lil more reserve, but when that runs down it must recharge. I had 2 1 farad caps on my old setup rf 800@2 and they could not keep up. IMO most people are better off without them and just upgrading the big 3 and getting a good battery. Other than that a HO alt would be the next step.

caps are fast charge/discharge.... they work well if they're used only to help stabilize voltage at low/normal listening levels... if you get dimming lights when you crank your subs, caps aren't going to help you... they could take care of a little noise induction, but you probably wouldn't hear the difference unless it's in your mid/high amp....

What about caps? I cousin had a one thousand watt system on his corolla and ended up changing his alternator twice untill he installed a cap. I have one just to be on the safe side, because it s easier to intall install a cap at home then to run to the dealer, wait, and then wait some more and then pay a bill of 300.00 then to just buy one for 100.00 and youre good to go. I have a clarion dvd player of 224 watts, a one thousant watt amp and two ten polk 400 watts bass speaker, my system kicks nice and my cap looks nice in line with my system. So put it in and save youre self the headache.

A burnt alternator is a FAR more serious problem than a capacitor can correct....that shows an inefficient amount of amperage being supplied from the alternator, causing it to TRY to give more, but it can't, so it burns.... capacitors won't add amperage, only a higher output alternator will... best bet is to keep the cap as a paper weight on your desk and upgrade the Big 3 with 2 or 0 ga. and get a better battery..
