Test Drive Story
Well i wanted to test drive a manual scion but they didnt have one on the lot. The dealer made arrangements for me to go to the actual storage area to test one there. I showed up and it was the actual piers where they unload right off the ships. So i get into the car and there is a guy, just the guy that drives them around and nothing else.
I used to work valet when i was 17 and thats how I learned to drive a stick, on other people's cars. I know its not moral and after that I never valet the car unless i give a big tip beforehand, nor should you, lol. So i was pretty good with a stick. But after so long I didnt know what to expect.
So i told the guy that I am a lil soar and may be slow, and he just said OK. So i pull out of the lot (no i didnt stall it) and just went down some streets, no higher than 3rd gear. Slow shifts, nothing crazy, some shifts were a little jerky but it was sorta ok. But driving a stick is a bit like riding a bike and I started to get the hang of it. The guy didnt have his seatbelt on and at this point was bored so he was talking to his wife on the phone. I turned onto a street with no cars or lights or stoplights for a while and descided to give it a go and hit it hard. I was into the top of 4th in no time. I shifted fast it was like poetry. As this all happened the guy pushed back in his seat and was yelling OH ____ to his wife while reaching for the seat-belt. I think there may be some ____ stains on that seat, lol.
So after that I went a bought a FM, now i just have to wait, i just figured i share the story and give someone a laugh at work or wherever you read this.

I was not red lining or anything, and trust me, if you saw how those guys are all peeling out and flying around the lot you would be angry. Your car is not as brand new and untouched as you think. Compared to the slow driving of before, it just shocked the guy. When i pulled onto the pier i saw a chinese food delivery guy at the gates and i hear a tires screaching and a honda pulls up (Brand new without plates and those white vinyl stickers on it). The guy come out, pays the delivery man, get into the car and peels out the tires and drives back into the lot. When you compare what they do to the cars, i did nothing.

stupid question, but could it be they had to test the car by driving it hard? it's a possibilty, but probably not.
i believe that most ppl when getting into a car that's not their would drive it aggressively.. why do they care. plus ppl who do that as a part of their job is probably bored as hell just like any other job.
i'm not defending those ppl, but it's really nothing you can do. even for lexus loaners. given a brand new gs 300 i'm sure ppl would drive the hell out of it. too bad someone will probably purchase it later on...

Many Porters are very good drivers but drive very fast. And, a lot of dealership employees don't believe in a break-in period.
That being said, this is one of the reasons I don't valet my car...
I started here as a porter and I'll swear to it that I did not mistreat the cars that came in. However, many of the guys that came and went did (not to mention that a couple of them learned how to drive a stick on the cars).
Our only concern here is that the cars come to the dealer scrached, and that is a pain, especially when it's one that has been ordered!
The way I see it, you can't control many things in this world, including the abuse that your new car goes through prior to picking it up, which is why the lemon law exists.

my dealer, the time I bought mine, had a car there only for test driving. I ran the crap out of it. Decided to by it and he would not let me take that specific one for that reason. Mine had less than 1 mile on it. When i went back for service. It was still there and had roughly 7000 miles on it. He said he drove it around town like a company car, For all dealers, great idea on performance cars.
