the rear window roll down like a early 80s fors bronco anyone know ho much a mod like this would cost?

That could cost some serious money...I really dont think its worth it....plus you gotta rig up a switch so you can put it down from the front seat and such....not really worth the hassle my personal opinion

A lot of work. It's not just open in there the depth of the liftgate. The way the reinforcements and mountings and license plate recess fill up the space wouldn't leave enough room to slide the glass down, much less the equipment needed. You'd probably need an entire liftgate made or have a lot of modification done to the existing one. I'll try to take a pic of my liftgate in the daylight so you can see what I mean... It's hard to see in the night pics:

didnt the 95ish 4runner rear window slide all the way down?? this idea is looming in the back of my head as well. probably something to ____ around with when there are some scions in the junkyard and its possible to pick up a hatch and get a hatch from the 4runner and try to make things work

It would be a lot easier to make it swing open on hinges with little gas struts, like older S10 Blazers and Pathfinders... added bonus would be the old skool minitrucker look when you're boomin' your 15s!

I actually did that exact thing to a longbed S-10 I had back in 1990, I didnt' like the snugtop rear window and all, working at a car stereo shop really had me nervous as to the ripoff factor too. I salvaged the rear window mechanism from a 1972 chevrolet malibu station wagon and had the tailgate on the pickup welded flush and shut. It worked, but the glass stuck up 2" when all the way down, even though the tailgate was taller than the window needed to be to clear the scissor mechanism to move the glass. Did some of the work myself and other parts were done with a body shop, ended up costing me about $3000 in 1990 money. Too much IMO.

What about splitting the hatch?

Make the top part open normally, bottom part open like a tailgate?

Would be original, would cost some cash, but might be cheaper then the sliding window.

Or you could make the window removable.

That's a good idea. Just don't drive with it open. That dead zone behind the Box must be filled with fumes. You'd be all nutted up on CO in no time. Makes me think of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot... :lol:

Custom side exhaust? Just behind (or in front) of the rear tire?

I'd vote for behind the rear tire, could have all the windows open. :D

I'd be worried about the exhaust venting into the rear/side windows when they were down.

Move it to the back corner of the car and you'll probably get some in but not as much.
