Default 9lb pulley s/c intercooler...?

I tried searching but kept getting thousands of matches everytime.. sooo I'm just going to post...

I don't feel safe running a non-intercooled system with a 9lb pulley for the supercharger, what's a good intercooler to buy? ..with an easy fit, no bumper cutting, etc.

Thanks!

i think its more of the piping that forces you to cut bumper. all of the intercoolers i've seen on turbo's that required cutting needed it to clear for the pipes connecting onto the IC

shes asking about supercharger, not turbo.

As far as Intercoolers go I believe i am the only one in the US with one on the supercharger. Its a custom kit, with the 9lb pulley I am only boosting about 5psi because of the length of the piping that was used in order for everything to fit, this is why nobody has made an intercooler kit for the superhcarger yet.

with that being said this topic has been covered numerous times but I will answer your question anyway. 9lbs has been determined to be safe on the stock motor without intercooling, I ran this way for a long time with no problems, you will be perfectly fine. I would not reccomend going more than 9lbs without intercooling, which i dont reccomend either unless you want to deal with the headache I am going through.

I hope that helps and feel free to pm me if you have any more questions about the intercooler and what was involved.

The TRD Aquacooler if it ever would come out, would be awesome. Look how short that piping is..

mmmm air to liquid... *drool*

a while back someone was trying to custom fab up a vortech charge cooler to work with the trd s/c. anyone know what happened to that?
I personally would go the air/liuid route vs the air/air route. as above said, boost pressure drops off too dramatically. a air/water cooler wont affect boost as much (maybe a psi) because it's piping isnt as long, it doesnt get heatsoaked as quickly as an air/air cooler setup (because liquids change temperatures slower than air does), and it's a unique thing to do... everyone has a front mount, air/liquids are hardly ever seen. too bad these types of sytems cost 1300+

Try Snowperformance.com. They make what they call "boost coolers." Injects a certain amount of water/methanol mixture to cool the air. Don't ask me how it works because I don't know. Just know they make universal kits and aren't very expensive. I would call them for info. It works great with Vortech Superchargers, like ours!

hmmmm water injection... there's something i havent thought of before... I NEVER use my windshield fluid, maybe I could "modify" the reservoir to work with a WI kit.

Devil's Own and CoolingMist make some decent WI kits also.

I have to agree with everything said so far. All the piping that would be required for a FMIC cause some loss of boost, so the FMIC is not a very good idea right now.

Just one thing I would like to add here... 9 to 9.5psi seems to be quite safe if you take a look at the Air/Fuel ratios on the dynos that have been posted around here. The stock ecu reflash is designed to run the car VERY rich at 7psi. This means that there is enough room to raise boost without needing any other tuning or cooling and remain safe.

I say go get yourself a pulley from www.NonStopTuning.com and enjoy the extra boost

The guy trying to fab up a vortech cooler's name is dallas and he leaves here in the same town. From what I've heard they went with a different air to water cooler that goes on top of the engine like the TRD one shown. The guy that made it promised him a gain of something like 30 horsepower but he wouldn't sell it to him for a good price unless Dallas sold some more to others. Apparently Dallas has been in contact with ZPI and it looks likely that they'll take over production of the coolers and sell them. Now don't hold me to that info but that's the last I heard from Dallas, as soon as I get more info I'll make sure to pass it along to you guys.

Water or meth injection would also be a very good cooler for these s/c's and it's also relatively cheap compared to intercooler setups.

snowperformance is an ok starter kit. The only problem is its not a fail safe universal kit. Look into aquamist 22D2 System

im not sure if youve had any luck yet on finding a intercooler but like kytc said water injection is a probably a more affordable way to go. try giving force fed racing a call and ask them about the water injection kits they have. im not sure if they have released them yet but last time i talked to them they were pretty close to finishing them up.

Don't worry about a intercooler so much. I have a boy who has a superchargered cobra and stock is 8 psi and he's running 14, and he has no intercooler. He puts down 457whp. God I wish I could have that kind of power.
