I dunno im seriously thinking of one. The price is damn good and the Xa looks like a mini matrix :P .

I didn't like the matrix becuase it was WAAAAAAY top heavy i was scared when i took corners. I like blue though... i wish there was some way of converting it or some option to have RWD. Cause i stall FWD like no tomorrow

my sister has a matrix XR4x4, and i have a xA. driving mine daily and her's often, i can tell yu the matrix sucks arse. the matrix may be faster in numbers, but it feel like ____ going though corners and breaking is even more crap. i've never driven a XRS, so i donno kno about that..

The XRS has Lift...but it's still a Matrix. The Matrix feels too much like a...wagon. The xA is a wagon, but it's real small, takes corners nicely... The xA's centered speedometer is cool. I like it a lot. I don't have to look down where my steering wheel is. My eyes are still on the road when I look at the xA's speedometer...so it's cool...

It certainly does look like a cleaner, smaller Matrix but in my opinion the xA handles much better from the test drives I have taken in the past.

They are both pretty cool looking though.

i test drove both the xrs and the xa when i went in for a car. the xrs has the same amount of power as the xr, and base but at higher rpms the extra hp kicks in, so unless you keep it in high rpms it won't be any different than the xr and base, that and it has 6 spd which i was really into :P
the xa felt like crap the first time i drove it, felt like a toy. when i was in the matrix it felt like a real car, but just a little too big, and it does feel heavy when you get on the gas at first. the xa moved pretty damn quick around the streets when i test drove, that's why i ended up going with the xa. they do look very similar though, i like the xa cause it's smaller, if it would've had that rally style shifter in the dash that would've been nice :D

almost every single person compares the xA to the matrix. they just say the matrix is smaller. i like them both, but the xA will look better fixed up.

w1ngzer0: you have the 240 right? if so, how is that project going.

I always think every Matrix I see is an xA, until I get closer.
I've probably seen more xAs than I know of, and just thought they were Matrixes.

I think the Xa is WAY cooler looking than the matrix. I hate the way the matrix has it's sides all caved in and next to the Xa, it looks like a station wagon

...although, I will admit...I really like the matrix and especiallt the vibe when they first came out....then I was in love with the Protege5 and the Mazda3...but ultimately the Xa won my heart!!!

the matrix and xa look similar from a distance but upon closer inspection, the matrix looks like a sienna w/ an awkward nose.

The Xa is a nicely designed car. The Xb reminds of the Pope-mobile and sometimes a car that carries the casket to a funeral. Here in Japan, honda makes something that looks like an Xb. I'll try to take some pics. It looks way better than the Xb.

Hey! The Xb does not look like a hurse..at least not to me..Besides The pt cruiser is the ultimate funeral car  But even if it does...It's still my xB...or will be whenever the dealer calls me and tells me its in! :(

Come to think of it...the xA does share a strong resemblance to the new chevy Aveo

I like that photo of the xA with the lady in heels... But doesn't it look kinda huge? I don't get it... I bet the xA is enlongated a little on the photo or somethin'.

I know when I see my car on the parking lot after I get outta work -- it looks pretty darn nice... :D even unwashed.

On closer examination, that photo above looks like it's either stretched longer, or it's squashed lower. Am I the only one that sees it? (I can go in Photoshop & attempt to recreate...)

I've been thinking that too. They make look more alike than the xA/Matrix even...

The xA is what results when a Mini Cooper and a PT cruiser reproduce. The Matrix is a slightly retarded distant cousin.

I drove them both... (bought the xA) but from my experience despite the fact that both are underpowered, the Matrix is heavier, and therefore more sluggish. It also doesnt seem to hold corners well, and the interior looks tacky. Spray-painted chrome doesnt do it for me.

uh, PT Cruiser? no... the xB is the PT Cruiser with a flat top haircut..

Ok, gotta say my 2 cents. Yes I agree the xA does look like a mini matrix, my wife even started thinking about getting one when her lease is up on her Matrix. Only problem is with two small kids the xA just didn't have enough room for carseats. we thought it would be really cool to have an xA and an xB in the driveway. So now she's thinking of another Matix, I haven't driven an xA but I do imagine it would handle better than our Matrix, just because of size, and yes our matrix is a little top heavy. That said, I love our Matrix, we got it because it was a fun car to drive and still could haul our little family around.

w1ngzer0: you have the 240 right? if so, how is that project going.

sorry to bring such an old topic back, but i got bored and left the board figured no one would reply.

Yah i have a 240 and project is going horrible. I have no job so bah. Once i get the job and the 240 is done i will be looking at a track car/auto x car. The Xa looks awsome . Though i really hate the speedo in the middle. Is there anyway mabie to get a little bit bigger engine in there like a 1.8? Or is the 1.5 cramped enough?

readen through the post, noone answered about y the speedometer is in the middle.

the answer is that in japan and a few other countries they drive on the other side of the road and on the other side of the car as well. For the car to make it in the US they would have to be driving on the same side as the rest of the cars in the US and it costs money to transfer all the electronics for the gauges etc to the other side of the car. Solution, keep it in the middle.m Hope i helped :)

Speedo in the middle - yes, in a nutshell, it's one of the ways they are able to bring this baby in at such a low cost. I actually like the speedo in the middle a lot and wish they also went to using credit-card like keys like the cool Renault Megane I drove last week in London had.

From cars.ign.com:

"...these vehicles were developed and produced with Toyota quality standards while at the same time cutting costs by almost an insane 50 percent.

Part of the way costs were cut is by basing the xA and xB off of the Japanese IST and bbX, respectively. Toyota also skipped making costly prototype vehicles and used advanced computer software to develop "simulated" prototypes. Scion vehicles will also share many parts with existing Toyota vehicles, like the Echo's 1.5L 108 hp engine and the Celica's five-speed transmission. "

I think it has a Mini Cooper-ish look from the side and rear.
