Default compatibility issuse with auto??

please dont flame me.......... if its already been asked.

so why do some turbo kits state for manual trannys only? what would be the negative effect of running a turbo kit on an auto tranny? i know how a turbo system works on the engine, i cant really see a downside to fitting it on an auto. Can someone help educate me?

Well if it helps... even TRD had a problem fitting the supercharger to the auto. They finally JUST released an "auto fit kit" for it.

Word I've seen says that the transmission dipstick is in the way or something like that.

I'm not sure if it's the same problem with turbo or not.

so are you thinking along the lines of fitting issue rather than running issue here? cos if its just fitting, thats not a major problem, ive done my own custom turbo conversion on an SR20, there always ways round things.

well, i think they're half covering their asses just in case something goes wrong, as they probably didn't test the kits on automatics. the other half, okay... there is no other half. that's it.

well i consider myself pretty fearless, i even go to the bathroom at night without the light on! dont care much for warranty, actually, warranty dont care much for me cos i think ive just about invalidated every aspect of my car!

if its not a running issue, id be willing to give it a go.

personally, i wouldn't mind going turbo on my auto, as long as its below 280whp, and I buy a tranny cooler.

and you are quite fearless indeed ;]

There will be people dedicated to furthering the cause at any cost - but IMHO these cars are still unpredictable and need alot of TLC.
Mine started rattling after adding Hotchkis Sway Bars, a Secret Weapon R CAI and Tsudo Axle back exhaust. I also had a Alphawerks Header and ZPI pulley that I sold to avoid the headache of having to replace it in case something went terribly wrong. These cars should be tested by the pros for at least 6 months prior to marketing/advertising the items.
It just stresses everyone out knowing the Civic surpassed everyone's expectations and the only inexpensive solution is a 50-75 shot of NOS. Good luck to everyone... Maybe once everyone working on Scions gets a reliable product, they will win back the public. But for NOW, the Civic RULES!! - Unless you have a custom turbo lying around and a FT mechainc for daily tuning.
Stick with the SC, unless you are: 1) ready to deal with all the turbo demons and 2) have money to burn and 3) have an extra car to get to work when the car is down for repairs.
