okay i have about $1500 to spend on the car after i get a bonus this june for military enlistment. i have a buddy who is a mechanic and has a private shop and owes me some huge favors, so he will install anything and everything for free (awesome) so the money will be strictly on parts. what i want is a nice rumble sound on the exhaust, i dont want it to sound like a fart can/rice burner
. i would like alittle power but im doin this more for a more fuel efficiant purpose rather than racing purpose. what would be the best exhaust/intake or exhaust/header combination? im also putting some springs to lower the car a bit, but i guess thats besides the point
hey, i have some suggestions for you:
for your intake go with: Injen Technologies CAI(cost 250)
this is the BEST intake by far, the fujita comes close, but still cant compare to the injen.
for the headers i say go with Monster Motorworks(cost 550)
the good thing is in esssence these headers really are only 350, and include an spipe which is 200. so you get an s-pipe and headers for 550. also they are the BEST on the market for our car at the time.
for the exhaust i would go with: the megan racing V3 exhaust(cost 400)
the megan racing exhuast is something not everyone has, and that just because it hasnt been relseased yet. but anyways...its a really nice exhaust, the fitment is great, and it comes with a midpipe and axle back. the midpipe has a large resoantor, and you should add another just to be on the safe side so not rasp.
magnaflow resonator(cost 100)
the resonator will keep the sound levels down...and will not create any rasp
seeing as you still have about 200 left..i would SUGGEST the Ingalls stiffy engine damper becasue with an intake you will want it, and you will be puttin in alot of power and you want to have something that will put it to the ground.
some people will also tell you to get new tires...and if you are on stocks rite now, i say to do that as well before you do anything else

Do you think the Monster Motorworks header is better than the alphaworks with a S-pipe?

do i think it is better? what is better?
i think that if you wanted an equal amount of HP and TQ then i would go with the MMW. also right now MMW is the best header for our cars, im sure that will change once Draxas comes out with theirs. and if you have the money for AW and an s-pipe why not just go with the MMW. i myself am either going to get the DC sports or possibly the Draxas only because im more of a TQ quy rather than HP...

Interesting... What do you think of the draxas exhaust? Im paranoid about making the car too loud to drive to work in piece. I love the loud when Im messing around, but not early in the AM driving to work.
Right now all I have locked down is the injen CAI. Im still bouncing around ideas on a header, and exhaust replacement. I may just order the intake and wait to see what drazas comes out with header wise. Thoughts?

from what i have learned...
you may wanna wait on that intake, or go with the Fujita F5. sure the injen makes the most horsepower, but the way that it is mounted to the engine will brake the mounts. the F5 however is mounted in a very different style so you will be good to go. so i recomend the F5.
for the exhaust, if you have money for the draxas than i say go for it..its not cheap but it is the best for our car. if not the draxas why not the magnaflow cat back, that too is very quiet, even with headers. and lastly the megan racing..its 50% quiter than the v2 so that is not very loud..and according to jsugi, it sounds close to the VQ.
and for headers..i would either get DC Sports, to keep a clean look, or wait for draxas.

Interesting...
So are you implying that there will be a new injen or something better soon? Im really in no rush.
For now the car is dead stock and I am going to do some autocrossing this friday, and then see what I want. Im still tossing around the idea of the super charger as well.

Injen CAI - 250
MMW Header / s-pipe combo - 550
Draxas Exhaust - $?
And some left over money -
ZPI Crank pulley - 145
Ingalls Engine dampner - 150
Short throw - 100
Thers a few things you can do with 1500, but thats what i would do

no injen will not make a new one.. not sure, but most likely not.
i would go with the F5 rite now if i were you.
bone stock tC autocrossing..tell me how it goes, im building my car right now as an ALL MOTOR auto x-er... i dont really like FI, not as much as i do NA. but its up to you, either way, you will be able to use your intake with the s/c, and if your gonna get the s/c dont get headers.. just pm me if you need any more info i'd be glad to help
and to whocares comment, i would rather go with the NST pulley than a ZPI

I would highly recommend a set of pulleys from www.NonStopTuning.com to go along with your intake and exhaust. They will free up a bit of extra power for you and help you with fuel economy as well

Yes, underdrive pulleys do help with fuel economy. Most people seem to pick up 2 to 3 mpg after they install lighter crank pulleys, which is probably from the added weight reduction and underdriving. I would look for the guys from NST, look for Mike, NSTonAIM if you have AOL to tell you why exactly this happens.
The crank pulley adds the most noticeable improvement, but if you have the cash pick up the other ones too
Yes, you need a new belt. Again the dudes at NST will tell you which one you will need to buy.
