Default TRD is not covered by Warranty

...just came to find out that TRD componant are not coverd by all Scion dealerships. Farttards in Poway refused to balance my TRD wheels on my xb (4800 miles) as "TRD is not TOYOTA".

OK, I paid almost 2k for the wheel package and am bleeding mad. Whom should I complain to or .....

Aren't the wheel packages a dealer option? So it should be covered by the warranty.

Also, what does TRD really mean then, I was under the assumption that it meant TOYOTA Racing Development.

The vehicle warranty warrants that the car left the factory with correctly made parts assembled correctly, and that if any of the factory parts were incorrectly made or assembled, they will correct the problem.

Anything else is under a seperate warranty if any.

"Balancing the wheels" is actually balancing the tires on the wheels, and tires are ALWAYS covered by a separate tire manufacturer warranty, not by the vehicle warranty, and balancing is one of those expected normal maintenance items. Aside from that, the materials of dealer installed accessories/options are generally warranted by the product manufacturer, and the workmanship by the dealer...

The balancing of the wheel/tire assembly is workmanship by the installing shop, and might be covered by them, but not by anyone else.

Good luck!

There is a 12-month warranty on official TRD branded Level 1 parts if not installed by a dealer. If installed by the dealer, the part is warranty for the remaining powertrain warranty (5years or 60K miles).

Please read here:
http://www.trdusa.com/Warranty.asp

What is Not Covered
Any repair necessitated by faulty installation of dealer-installed parts is warranted to the installing dealer. Parts used in any application for which they were not designed are not warranted.

Labor is not warranted for over-the-counter accessory repairs or replacements or for cars outside the time/mileage limitations of the Toyota new vehicle warranty. Please see your local Toyota dealer for additional warranty details.

routine maint is not covered under warranty. if there was a defect in the wheel, then the warranty would be in effect. did u have a problem or was it routine maint?

Adjustments are covered on a one-time-only basis for 3/36. Tire balance is an adjustment. TRD is now a part of Toyota and the parts come through the normal parts channels and they are warrantied as the above poster stated. Find a more competent dealer.

.....actually according to TOYOTA, the balancing in under warranty for the first 12 months or 12,000, which ever comes first. The wheels were put on by Scion dealership, althought not at same dealership that I went for the service

Shouldn't matter which dealership you go to, they should ALL honor ALL warrantees given by Toyota/Scion. I did think that balancing would fall under normal "wear and tear" though. You need paperwork showing the Warrantee from the dealer who installed the wheel package showing the "balancing" being covered
I had my Dealer install all the Scion accessories I bought just for the warrantees they carry.

....I did show them them the reciept that the wheels were put when I bought my car new. However they still showed me the road. I noticed the wheels need balancing after my brake in period (I know I don't need to brake in to engine of cars, but still rather be safe then sorry). Anyway, first time I went fast (little over the speed limit) I started to get the shakes. Thats when I went to the damn local dealership. I have called the dealership I bought the box from and they say its under warranty and welcommed me back, but haven't schedualed time since its a distance away. Im just ticket off that I wasted so much time with the poway dealership. I would never go back.
