Default Want bass but not a sub.

I recently put in a new headunit in my tC (Panasonic c9801u). It has made the stock speakers sooo clear. That's all well and good, but it lacks bass. I have a sub and amp, but really don't want to put it in the car because of the already limited cargo space. What I was thinking was replacing the rear speakers with ones that would have more bass to them. I don't want something that the neighbors can hear, just something to round out the system nicely, speakers that can push bass. Do you guys/gals have any suggestions for speakers?

Generally any aftermarket replacement that's a reputable brand will sound MUCH better than stock - along with some clearer bass. Some 2way speakers should do nicely.

what about the EU 700? Nice little amp to it and you should be set! It should fit in the rears with a 3/4" MDF baffel?

Thanks for your suggestions

The eu700 are nice, but I was hoping to avoid the amp altogether too, just more bass in the rear speakers. What about Alpine Type R 2way line of speakers? Any good or bad experiences?

i have the type s 6.5" in the back right now. Their pretty good for some nice sound but those type of speakers are not meant for bass? I sometimes hear cars with no aftermarket speakers and give some killer bass for some 2-way's! BUT sub's are meant for bass! I still say go with a small amp and the eu700's. I saw a video clip of those hitting and they hit hard! Dont know what amp they had?

If you go with the Alpines you'll like the sound, but if you try putting too much bass then it'll sound like crap!

hmm... I'll have to serious look into doing the eu700s. Now I have to tackle putting the amp in. Or maybe I'll downgrade to one ten instead of two to save some space.

The foam storage box under the rear floor is a perfect place for an amp. I personally would remove the foam and mount to the metal, just to allow more airflow around the amp (that is my plan anyway). For something small, you could mount the amp under the floor on the left, then mount a compact box with an 8" sub in the area on the right where the foam box is now. You could most likely get away with flush mounting with the floor and mount a grill over it. That would give you more bass but still leave all the cargo space open. I hear the EU's are very nice, and will probably be what I go for on mine eventually.

I just ordered an EU700 with the enclosure. That's where I was planning to hook everything up underneath the rear floor. Thanx guys for all your advice!

The RS2 has a sub tucked away under the carge area nicely, doesn't it? You could steal the idea or see how they have it set up. (I have zero knowledge of car audio, just throwing that out there)

You should check this out. It fits so nice and neatly in the corner that it is like it is barely there. It certainly would leave more room than a squre box.

Yeah, I've been eyeing it up and it's really nice. The price is a little high for me but I understand why it is that price. If I had the $$ I'd be all over it.

Check out the kenwood small sub which fits neatly under the cargo cover. Its a powered subwoofer pushing 150 watts using two 6.5 woofers (1 passive). If you dont want to lose any space at all and want something that adds a little more bass to the stock sound system, the kenwood should work.

Thanks REal, that seems to be exactly what I need! Since not getting a sub doesn't seem feasible this is the next best thing. and I know that it'll fit in that compartment. Found a great deal on one, and I won't need to go through the firewall to power it. Perfect.

Burn an mp3 cd and play it. mp3 cd's have an extra setting called srt on/off, which makes it sound almost like there is a sub in the car. The quality isn't as good for mine, but with your hu it might sound good.

np glad I could help. Well the kenwood is still a sub but just with a built in amp so you will still need to go through the firewall to power it. The good thing with the kenwood is that everything is included for installation.

He doesnt have the stock headunit anymore only the stock speakers. The SRT setting is only for the stock headunit. If you have the stock headunit try changing the car setting to either xA or xB. It sounds a lot better than the setting on tC.

Hold down the SSP button for 10 seconds and it will allow you to change car settings from xA, xB, tC. For some odd reason the tC setting sucks. Trying changing it to xA or xB. It makes a big difference! When I had the stock headunit I used the xA setting but some prefered the xB settings. Play around with it and try changing the treble and bass for each setting, see how you like it...

MTX AXE series is the way to go. I am actually about to put some in my ride. I have been told they hit like there is a 10 or 2 10's in the car. (high end components) they have 3 different component options high end are awesome.
