Default Trade in question

i am debating to trade my 06 tc with 5000 miles for a manual.
i am curious to know as far as the sales tax how that works, i live in MO.
will i have to pay it again for another 06? or since its the same year would it be even? also, fyi, i bought the current tc in 05, if that matters.

i think i have a good chance of selling the tc for good money because on auto trader there is only 3 listed within 50 miles of my zip code. one was private party with a window problem and ext 75000 mile warranty for $21,000. kbb lists excellent condition in at 19500, good condition at 18500. ill do good condition since the paint scratches so easily. i think my chances to come out even are fair, considering manual is cheaper? also, i have tint, and the pedestal spoiler and the subwoofer. 19,000 seems like a fair starting point?, as long as im open to negotiation? any thoughts?

yes you'll have to pay the tax again.

as for what to price yours at, do what you think is fair and go from there :] see what people are willing to pay.

you would lose too much not worth it at the end you could have gotten a better car.

Maybe if you find someone who wants an Auto.

Too bad you are far from PA, otherwise I can swap the car with ya. I have a MT IIP 05 tC with 7K miles

I don't think 06 is soo much better, just few change that's all. I also don't understand what's wrong with the paint, no problem for me so far.

I am just kidding about the swap, auto is too boring for me

Good luck with your trade.

traded my 05 5spd for a 06 auto about a week ago. I have to tell you, though its fun having a 5spd, I wish I went with auto from day one.

Gas is about 100miles better per tank! And about 50miles better when I drove the stick properly.

I’m getting 29-30mpg vs my 22-24 on the 5spd

And if I don’t count the California tax and reg ($1945), I only paid around 2100$ more for this new Automatic car with around the same options I had on the 5spd.

Mumm, don't know how you get such poor gas mil, maybe you drive within a city all the time?

I drove 50/50 city/hwy everyday and my gas mil is always 26.5-28.

i was under the impression a lot of tc owners with automatics were slowly decining on their mpg? just curious becuase i miss the control and i hate the delayed shifting, you have to floor to get it to shift... i do like the off the line feel of the auto, its pretty peppy. usually when i give it some gas i accelerate a lot quicker than most cars from a stop, after that, i start yawning.

i have the answer to your question!!! i went through almost the same situation about 2 weeks ago. luckily, i'm procrastinating taking my final exam and going on scionlife to tell you what i know~!

here's my expierence: i went to honda to see how the numbers would play out if i were to trade in my 06 tC (18", ped spoiler, led, fogs) for the civic si. i bought my car late feb this year and it had 2277miles.

it was worth 15,500 which they said there was some room for negotiating. i'd say no more than 1000. i paid 22k for the tC, for me to loose 7000 in 3 months seemed crazy!!!! kinda wish i got the si instead, but anyways......

basically if i trade in my car at 15,500, i don't pay taxes on 15,500 off the si. so lets say the si is 20,000. then i only pay taxes on 4,500 of the price.

if you were to sell your tC privately, then go buy another tC, you'd have to pay the full amount on that tC just like your purchasing a brand new car for the firt time. meaning, you pay all the tax, tittle, etc, everything.

i'm also just thinking about selling my tC privately so i don't loose that much money. but it's a hassle selling cars privately in my opinion. ppl bs too much...

i don't think the accessories add any/much value to our cars at all. i mean, i had 2110 worth of oem parts added on from port, and the trade in was still 15,500. i'm sure if i took all those options off it would still be worth the same to the dealer.

imo i like auto tC more than 5 spd. to cruise on the freeway at such high rpm just is a no no for me. plus i major complaint is the gears are too set too short.

hope this was clear and helpfull, now wish me luck on my math final, lol

anyone interested in 06 bsp tc auto 3000>mileswith the options listed above???

I got low miles doing 80-90 to and from work.. 40miles each way everyday. now if I came down to 65, I got better miles but what’s the point when all of traffic is doing 90 every morning,

California drivers man, sometimes even if u don’t want to speed you have no choice just to avoid gravel from trucks that chip your entire front end.

I got a 06 FM TC and for the first 3-4 months, I was depressed with the performance of the AUTO. It is nowhere near the dealer's claim of 0-60 in 6.8 seconds. I briefly traded cars with a buddy but he demanded his car back saying the weak and sluggish transmission was not worth the good gas mileage - he drives a Corvette. So yeah, me and AZNBREAD are stuck... $22k worth of payments, but only dealers and re-selling bs talkers will pay $15k (bc they can wait for buyers and offer the financing we can't and still make $3-4k in profit).
The TC is a good car, so I will keep it 4 years-but only bc I can't afford to trade it for ...

good to hear someone is in the same boat even though it isn't good news...

you mentioned trading it in if you could afford the loss. just wondering what would you trade it in for. i already mention a few times i would go for the new si, it's just about the same price as my tC anyways.

your right, the tC isn't a bad car. but there are some definite issues that will prevent me from buying another, or a scion in general. overall i'm slightly disappointed with my purchase. to be honest i'm bias for toyota. so even if toyota does build a car thats not good, i'd won't admit to it. i'm feeling more and more like the tC was just thrown together. it doesn't do anything exceptional. everything is just ok. judging for myself i can tell i don't want to keep this car longer than i have to, but i will keep it for a while so i don't have to suffer too bug of a loss.

the car hasn't been out too long, but i don't see the interior holding up too well when everything already rattle and kinda loose from the 1st month of owning. moonroof might go bad as well. i use to like the cloth fabric, but it's not the best kind of material for the interior of the car. every notice how skin flakes/risidue gets left behind? especially the arm rest from ppl's elbows. even if you scrape your skin on the fabric, it leaves behind skin flakes.

wow. interesting. but no, cant say ive experienced skin residue... lol.

i actually called my drivers buerau and they said regardless of traded or sold, like he said, you have to pay the tax difference of the amount of the new car and the amount yours sold for.

Unless everybody on here pays cash for their cars, you guys are forgettin about the likely hood of having Negative Inequity. The trade in value may be $15,500. But say you still owe $18,000, when you go to purchase that new car and trade in your basically new car you just lost some money there didnt ya.

If they even told you a 5speed tC could pull a 0-60 of 6.8 seconds they would be retarded. Nevery listen to salesmen, in my experience they don't know much about what they are saying. One salesman, At A Toyota Dealership, tried to tell me Superchargers are only for mixing the air and the fuel better and do not exert boost under any circumstances. LMFAO I know its not all salesmen but its a lot of them. I used to work for a NISSAN dealership also, so ive had plenty of time around them.
