Magnaflow install, what a pain but it works. slight 56k
I went to my grandpa's house to use his lift and get his help on the install of my Magnaflow cat-back. He has atleast 40 years of experience with cars and engines. He doesn't care for rice burners to much. It all started off good. We got the stock exhaust out of there pretty quickly.
Next we lined up the piping which didn't fit that well but good enough for the install. Nothing will be banging around but not all parts had 1/2" of clearance like what was recommended.
Now we have the clamps on and begin tighting to the recommended 65 ft-lbs. First we start with 55 and plan to work our way up. He doesn't like the amount of force required but we start. The thread strips quickly. We take that off and try the second one and again the thread doesn't hold and is stripped. We have to grind that nut off to redo it. He only had a grade 5 bolt laying around to try out and we broke that using 50 ft-lbs.
We ended up fabbing our own bolts using Grade 8 3/8" bolts. We drilled out the top of the stripped bolts and used them so it would line up correctly against the clamps. I should have take a picture to show but we were to busy working on that. Basically the stock bolts have a flat top and a rounded bottom which you need to hold the clamp together at the ends.
I believe we only went to 50 ft-lbs on the 3/8" and the back two bolts didn't strip with 50 ft-lbs so we left them. Overall once it was finally done it's a pretty decent setup. I picked it up for the price of most axle backs so I'm not complaining to much. Just watch out with the bolts they supply and don't use to much force.
Some pics.
Guess the car in the reflection

Any comments welcome. Thanks
P.S. That things got a hemi.

looks nice, i have the same muffler, i always wondered how the magnaflow mounted up
looks like you did a good job on the install, but how does it sound?

It's not a Stingray but it is a 60's corvette.
The exhaust sounds really good. It only gets loud above above 3500-4000 rpm's or so but on the freeway it's really quiet. No annoying droning noise like my old acura had. I also have the CC S-Pipe to go along with it. K&N drop in with the G.F.I intake installed. It works for me.
Yea the lift is awesome, his shop is bigger than his house. You can see some of the tools in the background of the last picture. Lots of Snap-On tools
... He doesn't want to install my flywheel/clutch though. I have another friend that is a Toyota tech who will do it for cheap.

Hey cool, you're in Washington. Wherebouts? If you're close, it'd be cool to see you drive out to Bremerton to check out the meet & greets over at Heartland.
It'd be a good opportunity to show off that exhaust. Lookin' good. =D

I put together a schedule of all the next meets over in the PacNW region forum. There's only a couple tCs that show up at the meets in Bremerton -- my car and two other guys, the rest are all xBs. hehe

I've been looking for the magnaflow exhaust. I hate to be the one to ask, but do you have any sound clips of it? Also, do you have to do the standard "measure 3 inches and cut the down pipe with a reciprocating saw" deal? just curious. nice looking exhaust!
I'll try and get more pics of the vette, he'll have to send me some.
I measured 3.5" with a tape measurer then I marked with a sharpie and used a chain cutter wrapped around the pipe and it made a really clean cut. We filed the rough spots and it was good to go. Really easy, the new pipe slides right over it.
I can try to get some sound clips I have a digital camera so I'll see what I can do.
