try this link http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html

input your original offset and rim width, then input new values, it'll tell you how close or far(clearance) the new set up is.

what is the best offset for the xB.... like 35-0 or what?

depends on width and what you want. Even front and back requires different offset front and rear or diff width or both or spacers. Flush with the fender requires a little trimming.
What width?

It all depends on what you're going for. My wheels are a +40 offset:

These are a -32 (Yes, that's MINUS 32  )

See how most of my rim is under the car and behind the hub. The other ones are going to have much more of the rim in front of the hub, sticking outward. Of course they'll be tucked under flares and won't just "stick out"...

Does that help?

That's awful advice. Most people don't want to rub, roll, or use flares.

When it's done RIGHT, it's a good thing...

I was told by discount tire that the offset for an xB should be between 35-42, I ordered18 inch rims online with a +40 offset and have no problems!
