Default S-Pipe Sound/Exhaust Leak

After putting on my s-pipe last night I can't figure out if I have an exhaust leak or not.. I put my hand about an inch away from the pipe and had my friend rev the engine and I couldn't feel any air coming out..

I have the megan header & s-pipe, stock midpipe & axle back.. The car sounds much louder and alot more raspy. Is this normal or do I have an exhaust leak?

I put my hand behind the muffler and the flow feels exactly how it did before, but the car just sounds completely different.

Did you guys use the stock bolts between the header & s-pipe or did you use longer ones?

Well I found out where it was leaking.. It was between the midpipe and the s-pipe..

Even after sawing off & grinding the piece of metal that stuck out from the s-pipe I still couldn't get it to seal.. I grinded it down so it was COMPLETELY flat, not 1 high spot.

It seems like the gasket that they sent is not thick enough.. The exhaust gas will exhaust on both sides on the pipe. I purchased something called "mr. gasket" last night from amazon.com. You can cut out your own gasket's from there.. Most likely I will have to use 2 or 3 of them to get it to work.

Once again, if anyone's planning on purchasing this megan s-pipe.. Don't do it and save yourself the headache.

I had none of the troubles you had with the Megan spipe. I cut off that extra piece of metal and she sealed up perfect..

Ultra Copper gasket maker does a good job of sealing up exhaust leaks. I had to use some to seal up my CC s-pipe at the flange of my AW header and it hasnt leaked at all in almost 8 months.

Their manufacturer made them wrong, they should be fixed by now... It took all of 3 minutes to cut it off and put the spipe on my car. It was the best $100 ive spent, all the other spipes start at $150 and up and are not stainless steel..unless you $$ for it to be.

No way anyone could do it in 3 minutes.. Especially when if you sawed it by hand (like me).

Probably took 10 minutes to saw it off, and about 15 to grind & sand it until it was perfectly flat.

Megan shouldn't of even sold the s-pipe's without cutting that piece of metal off. If they didn't want to cut it off they shouldn't of charged full price. This pipe is marketed as a full bolt-on, which it is definately not.

Then after I take the time to saw it off, it still doesn't fit. I have to spend more money and take more time just to get it to work.

Yes way 3 minutes. Portable band saw and there wasnt any need to grind or sand.. 1 cut and it was flush..

Lemme reword.. 3 minutes with the right tools.

Try doing it by hand.. it's not quite as easy.

I actually ruined a grinder I had.. That stainless steal is really tough. I was grinding it for a few minutes then the entire thing pretty much exploded (the shaft & wheel), shot all over my garage in tiny little pieces.

When I e-mailed megan I wish they wouldn't of told me that the spacer works perfectly.. I waited around for the spacer to come in the mail and it ended up leaking even worse with it.

I love the look of the OEM style exhaust megan has but I'm wondering if I should purchase it now since I had a problem with the header & s-pipe.

I had the original megan header (with the cat). The cat broke lose inside and worked it's way through all the way to the middle of midpipe (several people had this problem). They sent me the new version without a cat and everything's fine now but it's just annoying running into all these problems with their products.

Tell them to send you a new spipe. You figure the pipe cost me $100, I had to modify it but it works awesome without any leaks..

Maybe you should wait till you get their exhaust, thats the only differnce between me and you. I have their catback and it mates up perfectly..

I'd like to but I hate the "drift style" that they are currently selling.. The OEM style looks so much more clean, IMO.

Once that is available I'll definately get it though. Until then I'm going to have to rig up a gasket that fits.

I wrote megan a very detailed e-mail about the problems I was having.. They were really cool about it and said they would send me a new s-pipe for no extra costs. They agreed with me that it might of just been a factory defect.

Currently, I have a really bad leak in between the midpipe & s-pipe, I've tryed several different types of gaskets.. The only thing that worked was 3 gaskets together, and that only lasts for about 1-2 weeks (or until I hit 2nd gear really hard).. Then it starts leaking again.

It's been a pain but I would still order from megan.. I've had problems with this s-pipe and also the original header they produced (pre-cat came out and got stuck in the exhaust system), but they always resolve the issue without giving me a hard time at all.

They're a great company in my opinion.

this is my post from megan group buy on 3/29/06

i just wanted to let everyone know about my experience with the tc exhaust and s-pipe install. overall great product and i'm very satisfied but i did have 2 issues. i did have to use the pipe strap to pull i from the right about a half in. not a big deal and thank you for the idea. but when i was installing the s-pipe to the car there was extra piping that came off the exhaust side of the s-pipe. it looke like there should be a donut gasket on that end. but on the exhaust there was just a flat flange and the 2 pipes would not go together because they were the same size. i had to sawzall the extra piping off the s-pipe side and the grind it smooth with a grinding wheel. not a big deal as i was at a body shop and had all the tools in the world to help me including a lift. but if i had this on jack stands in my driveway with just hand tools this would have been horrible to deal with. just to let everyone know my expereince and hear if anyone had this same issue. i assume this is only on the latest 2.5" version of the s-pipe.

No, I don't think they'd want it after it's been installed on my car for over a month.
