Who would win between a 97 Mustang GT and a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 2006?

my prediction: both cars spin their wheels for about 3-6 sec, first one to hook up wins the 1/8. Unless the stang is extremely lucky, the eclipse gets it in the end.

I would actually have to go with the Mustang on this solely on the basis that it will get the better launch because it is RWD and exterts 20lbs more of torque.

The only way I can see the Eclipse GT winning is if the Mustang driver does a worse launch or if the probability of the Eclipse GT having a better top end, since the 280hp 3.8 in it has variable valve timing as well as much better aerodynamics helps it pull through towards the end. Either way it will probably be very close even the Mustang GT does weigh 200lbs less.

I know for a fact that the mustand has a better tire than the Eclipse that I'm talking about. What do you think?

except for the fact that 65% or so of the weight is on the front tires. Stangs are notoriously difficult to launch.

I'd say a victory for the eclipse. That was the first generation of the SOHC 4.6V8, rated at an embarassing 215hp. FYI, this is less powerful than than the old 5.0 foxbody mustang v8's from 1988 - 1993. Oh, this only holds true if the mustang is relatively stock though.
