I ordered my tc 6 weeks ago. It will be in 3 days from now and i am wondering if it is a good idea or not to lower it and add ground effects. your opinions are greatly appreciated.

lower it, but don't do it at the dealer. same goes for oem lip kit. as a matter of fact, don't do ANYTHING at the dealer except picking up your sweet base model tc! in stick of course :)

is there any certain reason why i shouldn't do it at the dealer because the owner is a good friend of mine

exige

yes....they'll overcharge you big time...even if the owner's a friend of yours. try trdsparks.com, mcgeorgeparts.com, and i think even partznet.com has add-ons too. the ground effects kit can be found for much less than the dealership sells it for (try trdsparks) and the lowering springs that the dealer offers really arent that much. i suggest hotchkis or tein h-techs for a better drop. pm me and i'll help you out bro. welcome the the world of aftermarket (including oem stuff not bought from the dealer) parts. whatever you do, don't buy your stuff from the dealer, their stuff is way overpriced compared to the internet.

ok well thats not bad cause thats how much i got mine installed for! The dealer quoted me $500+$ for springs! retards! the only thing you should go to the dealer is for the FREE oil changes and warranty problems! Nothing else, buy everything else from TRDsparks or McGeorgeparts! Great places!

BTW what are your choices on springs?

quick7

they definately tried to rip you off. i only know of the factory springs that they make available

i saw go ahead and get the ground effects from them so yuo can finance it with the car. it'll jus be a hassle to order the kit and then paint it and then install it later. springs isnt that hard to do and its a lot cheaper if u bought it somewhere else

that's sweet!! i checked out your pics earlier today and was telling my buddy about your yankee vid. does that car have ground effects on it?

exige

quick7
05-30-2006, 03:45 AM
yea it does. are you going to do anything else to it

Yanki01
05-30-2006, 03:47 AM
i plan on getting them! Just need the cash! I say get the lip kit so you can finance it and not worry about paying later? But thats just me!?!?

oh yea! I love that video! i cant wait to go so i can sit in that section!

if you want one of the spoilers? get that to! you dont want to drill into your own hatch! thats about it!

i like both of them, im still debating on which one im getting myself? they both look good with a clean drop and lip kit!

quick7
05-30-2006, 03:54 AM
yea i already told them the lip is what i wanted. personally i like a solid tight looking car. i think the pedistal spoiler makes it look a little loose at the end.

Yanki01
05-30-2006, 03:56 AM
so what are your plans for her?

quick7
05-30-2006, 03:59 AM
classic leather shifter, dimming mirror, rear bumper protector, lip spoiler, lower it, fog lights. i think thats all. i was going to get the rear tail lights but i decided against it.

Yanki01
05-30-2006, 04:07 AM
i say no fogs and no bumper thingy!

both are not worth it!

quick7
05-30-2006, 04:09 AM
yea the only reason for the ground effects was to make the front end look a liitle better but yours looks great the way it is!!!

i have ground effects w/ tanabe df210 springs. pretty low. but have had very few problems.. all minor.. only killer thing are those big hills, i have to slant real good... but ya, the bottom of mine is shredded from many minor bumps. its ok though because NONE of the scrapes are visible unless your on the floor

quick7
05-30-2006, 04:28 AM
it shouldnt be on the floor considering i am using all the dealership's stuff

lmao, everyone asks that. its 2.5% rear and 5% front. im about to take it off and do 20% all around

reason:
1. not legal
2. at night, if it dont light up you dont see it
3. i dont wanna crash

I don't know why everyone keeps saying not to do things at the dealer. Not ALL dealers are complete numb nuts. Mcgeorge's parts IS from a dealer... But I must agree always and I mean ALWAYS be cautious, be competent (or give the impression that you are), and most of all, be nice to the mechanics and tech guys, they're the guys who're touching your car...

^^We're not saying don't install stuff at the dealer, we're just saying you can get the actual item cheaper from mcgeorge or sparks.

yes, we're saying it just so you save money and can learn more about your car. labor cost is where your wallet will really feel it.

yea i remember a member explaining how a dealer charged him 700 for TRD springs then 400ish for install then said they arent including the alignment so that was another 80... 1200$ to have springs when you can pay 140 for TEIN s-techs shipped then 12.99 to rent a spring compressor for a day. quite a gap

exige

thats.......disgusting.

This thread pulled pretty off topic real quick. :p

Okay, does anyone know how much lower the front lip of the ground fx is compared to a stock tc? I'm considering trd, hotchkis, and tein h techs. I'm kind of leaning towards hotchkis though. Are those last two too low for the ground effects kit? I just don't want to ever see my car get scraped.

no matter which way you go, if you have lowering springs and ground efx kit....the bottom of your bumper, where you can't see it unless you're underneath your car, is gonna get scraped at some point. imo, hotchkis is the cleanest and seems to be one of the few that doesnt require new shocks and struts immediately upon install.

you mean shocks and sways xP

I wouldn't say you necessarily need new shocks and struts after you get springs for the tC. Most are made to work with the OEM shocks and struts. But they will most definately wear out faster with lowering springs. And it is recommended to get shocks and struts when you get lowering springs.

if installed by the dealer does this kill the warrenty?

no i mean shocks and struts, just like i said. sways are the bars that run laterally across your car to stabilize it....the official name is anti-sway bar.

umm. the dealers are supposed to sell the kit for $995 INSTALLED. why would you pay $860 plus shipping from Sparks and then pay for the dealer to install it?

Go with the dealer bro. Btw, they're only charging me $225 to mount my shocks/struts and springs.
