When did it become okay to touch peoples cars?( Rant Warning
A couple of weeks ago, a few members of scionlife went to a small local show. Every other kid that walked by the cars put their hands on the cars, and not one parent ever told them not to. I grew up around show cars and dragsters, I always remember my dad warning me not to ever touch anyones car or motorcycle, ever. I am not so worried about a kid hurting the car, as much as it bothers me that people think its okay to touch another persons car.
It is never ok, I never allow people to touch my rides unless they ask. If I see someone putting there greasy nasty hands on my cars, I put a little sign out that I keep under the seat that says "I'll keep my hands off your mother and sister if you keep your hands off my car"
I've seen quite a few people using velvet "ropes" or road cones to block off their vehicles... might be worth looking into, but obviosuly doesn't address the issue or parents and kids being stupid.
man I have kids, Love kids and all, but damn stupid parents will not keep kids from jacking up cars at shows! I caught a 2 year old throwing rocks at the car next to mine! I yelled out "who's kid is this" and a lady walked up and said it was hers, I told her he was throwing rocks at that car, and she replied "oh, well he is 2 years old you know" I just stood there looking at her.. could not even get the words out of my mouth I wanted to say *LOL* Just turned around and walked away shaking my head.
I don't mind setting up a barrier of some sort at some shows. But this was a little local show, maybe 50 cars max. Some ropes or something just seem like over kill at shows like that. It was so bad at this show that we were taking bets on when one of the scions would have its boo boos(little door lock things) stolen, since all the kids focused right in on them.
Oh heck no. I love little kids and all but touchin on someone's clean car isnt right. And throwin rocks is really a prob for me, age aint nothin but a number. Did any BOO BOOs get stolen? At shows that there should be an age limit for the kids to be by themselves. If a child is found without a parent the parent and child should be kicked out of the show.

Yeah, I hate that. I always warn my kids before we go. Of course the LAST time I parked in my work building, the attendant started picking at some dust on my CF fenders!!!! I said " I know I sound nutty, but don't touch my car except the door handle" Well, that's the "family friendly" version of what I said. 30 minutes later I couldn't stand it and went and moved my car to an unattended garage. I'd rather take my chances with getting jacked than getting jerked...
yes, age is never a valid excuse for the child, but the parents thing so.
kids are constantly learning and are like a sponge, they are going to remember to behave like whatever the parents drill into them.
I can't stand idle parents

It's pure disrespect to get your paws all over someone else's car, especially when they just spent a great deal of time cleaning it up (shows). When I see an awesome car in a parking lot I make sure to keep my hands behind my back when I look in the window so that the owner, if they can see me, does not think that I mean any harm.
As for the throwing rocks thing... you should have started chucking rocks at HIM.

signs dont always work tho..... at SCN up in canada... people walked right over the "do not touch" signs placed on the floor 2ft in front of the car... and other places... not only did they touch.. some started climbing in... like it was a regular show room... to see how things felt/fit etc.... grr..... i'd be surprised if wedrivescions didnt have to re-adjust his doors cuz of the people trying to move them in all ways but the correct way....
while standing near my car i had a few people ask if they could close/open the door to take pics etc with their kids posing in front.. that was cool... they asked...
next show gonna definatley work on getting signs or ropes or something to discourage touching..... i do have a paint ball marker or 2... wonder if those "practice" rounds hurt any???

oh do not get me started, first off, even though i do not have my concealed weapons permit, i do not go into a new place unarmed, I went to tampa to do a car show at *toyota dealer to remain unamed* and was talking to a firend of mine not 10 feet away, only to look up and see some kid, maybe in his teens, going through my glovebox.... now when i go to a carshow, i leave my windows down a little, and lock my doors, so this little ***** had to have reached inside the car and unlocked the door, so i walk over and ask him what he was doing, "lookin" is his response, so i ask him to kindly get out of my car, at this point i realize that not only is he going through my glovebox, but he has set 3 pizza crusts on my dash, at this point im demanding that he "get the F outta my car" and i asked him where his mom or dad were, "at home" was his response, so i calmy said that if he ever wanted to make it home again, he would put my stuff down, grab his S/// and get out of my car... AND THE IDIOT DIDNT MOVE, so i gladly removed him from my car, throw his pizza at him, and told him to F off, the kid ran away crying....
