View Full Version : GOT JACKED ON EBAY
carlb28 06-02-2006, 06:02 AM ok listen to this...
i find someone selling a used turbonetics kit on ebay. he lists a phone number on the description. so i call him and he says hes willing to sell it for 1700. so i talk him to 1500. and i call him the next day. we agreed to do a half a half kind of thing. i was sendgin 800 to him and he would ship the turbo and then i would send 700. well i called him from western union. he took my address down and said he was at UPS. i was like cool, so ill call you after i make the transfer. i call him, no answer, so i leave a message saying i finished and to call me back. i havent heard from him its been a week. now hes got another turbo kit for a scion on ebay. same phone number in miami, fl. different ebay username. his email is no longer available and his phone doesnt ring and wont let me leave a message. he cashed in the money order 3 hours after i sent it.
when i first started talking to him i told him i was in the marine corps and i get payed (today) so i would have to send him 2 payments, he seemed like a cool guy just trying to get rid of his turbo. now i have 800 bucks less and a week has passed with no turbo on my door. i think i have been scammed. i know i made a lot of mistakes the way i did this. im not sure if i should give out the name and number because its been 3 buisness days, but its looking not so good... any advice AT ALL?? he has an item on ebay RIGHT NOW. BE CAREFUL!!!!!!
bBlover 06-02-2006, 06:08 AM Give it a couple more days, then hit up eBay.
carlb28 06-02-2006, 06:09 AM no when i called him we did it person to person, and he deleted his ebay .... so the item isnt there any more, i thought maybe he did this to keep from having to complete the bitting and stuff. so we didnt use ebay, mistake #???....
damn, that sucks man... sorry to hear.
hayalex6 06-02-2006, 06:15 AM This is why you never use money orders. Have people not realized this yet?
Next time, do PayPal. At least you can get your money back with PayPal's help.... but you're screwed.
mikochu 06-02-2006, 06:15 AM That sucks. You pretty much handed the guy 800 bucks. I hope everything ends up okay.
carlb28 06-02-2006, 06:16 AM yeah .. it will take me a long time to recover 800 plus the money for a kit.. so learn from my mistake i guess. i never thought this would happen to me. i didnt think people would jack someone in the military..
ddsboi 06-02-2006, 06:18 AM from a guy who ebays alot, yes big mistake man. ebay can't help u. yea all u can do know is contact local authorites maybe in his area and see what they can do. At least u did money order and not cash, so u can prove he has ur money. yea give it a few more days, but if he deleted his ebay an dput up a new one u just got scammed.
ALWAYS USE PAYPAL!!!!!!!!
DaDerf 06-02-2006, 06:19 AM U R Screwed, But let ebay know what this persom is doing and they Might give you a name to go after.
SquallLHeart 06-02-2006, 06:39 AM i didnt think people would jack someone in the military..
your military position doesn't stop anyone from scamming you. unfortunately that's what it looks like happened.
being former military myself, i know that in the real world.. it means jack. so you get a few people that respect you... overall... it was a horrible experience and i'm glad i broke my contract and got out early.
sorry man... we all live and learn.
carlb28 06-02-2006, 06:53 AM ebay is going under maintainance right now. how convieniant. by tommorow that other kit will already have scammed someone else..
LiNxStEr 06-02-2006, 07:00 AM Actually something like that happend to me. I ebayed a video ipod won it for around $300. Payed with paypal but the item never got shipped to me. I waited 3 weeks send emails buy i never got my money refunded. Paypal didnt do smack about it. The guy still selling stuff on ebay.
wolfe 06-02-2006, 01:53 PM Could you take him to a small claims court? Sounds like you'd have proof of sending the money, and at least some proof that he was indeed selling the item. Unfortunately it sounds like you have no written evidence that you were sending him the money for the turbo.
Sucks that there isn't more you can do when stuff like this happens :(
carlb28 06-02-2006, 01:59 PM actually i put a security question on the money order.... the question was : what are you sending me?
the answer was : a scion turbo kit
I hope you didnt try and buy this kit...

Its so fake its not even funny. Look at the downpipe, there is no way that would fit a tc, and turbonetics uses a unichip for their app...
Just buy from a turbonetics authorized dealer.. sorry about your luck :(
jwaggz82 06-04-2006, 03:21 AM i got screwed and paypal and my CC got my money back to me within 3weeks. I was suprised things worked out so well. Always email yourself everytime u email the guy so u have backup copies
Kilo6_one 06-04-2006, 03:25 AM Man rule number 1) never do a ebay transaction outside of ebay 2) never use a money order or western union.....
sorry you got jacked, honestly there is really not much you can do..
05-RS1 06-04-2006, 03:28 AM sorry u had to learn the hard day, but the first rule on buying anything on ebay is NEVER USE WESTERN UNION! every scammer will tell u to do a western union money transfer and give them the money transfer control number. i had to learn the hard way too but fortunately it was no where near $800. hope that it shows up on ur doorstep in the next few days. otherwise i dont think its comin esp. since he's cut off all contact with u. mayb hunt him down at the address u put on the form.
carlb28 06-04-2006, 07:09 PM i filed a report with the FBI, they are going to go through western union and find out what location he picked the money up. ive been doing some digging on ebay and he has used like 4 different phone numbers. all to sell turbo kits. on of the numbers is the same area code as mine. western union has put a fraud alert on him so he cant pick up money orders for the next 2 months. im not just going to accept losing $800 without trying to get it back
hayalex6 06-04-2006, 08:02 PM Dude, the FBI isn't going to do ____ for you. Unless you have a turban on, they don't care.
kkawana 06-05-2006, 08:57 AM eh... maybe they will.. maybe they wont.. they are least giving him the warm fuzzies and saying they will.... sounds like western union is also doing something as well(or at least the warm fuzzies again)
At least he's tryin to go thru the channels availible to him.. and doing his own research.... some people just complain and or kick them selves and not try to do anything but complain...
hope ya get some sort of results other than warm fuzzies Carlb28
-Keith- 06-05-2006, 06:53 PM I hope you didnt try and buy this kit...

Did anyone notice on how many bids on that are by people with no feedback...
I bet he's boosting up his own bids
Of course.
That kit looks like a honda kit, there is no way that downpipe would fit the tC with our Spipe design..
Nick06tC 06-05-2006, 11:25 PM I hope you didnt try and buy this kit...

Check his feedback, and look at the two items he has sold. Both of them are turbo kits. One for an accord, one for a civic. Plus he is selling this one for a tC. He has the same exact story of 5000 miles on his car and got rid of it. And in all of them he posts a phone number, and in all three they are different phone numbers.
If anyone knows the way of reporting this guy, you should.
unsungfate 06-05-2006, 11:28 PM you say your in the marine corp? Go to miami and go med-evil on his b!tch @ss
unsungfate 06-05-2006, 11:35 PM the guy selling the turbo kit... his grammar sucks balls
stuntman 06-05-2006, 11:36 PM was the money order sent to a PO Box?
Nick06tC 06-05-2006, 11:41 PM I have such a desire to call the number and talk to him. See how it fits both the tC and xA. This has me aggravated and I am not even involved.
MacMaster 06-05-2006, 11:44 PM gotta be able to do some crazy cop work or somethin where they call the number and trace where the call adress is or whatever, that would be the easiest, at least from a moviegoers standpoint.
Nick06tC 06-05-2006, 11:45 PM The more I look at the ebay profile the more and more its wrong. His profile says:
member of design race creationz in ft lauderdale fl
currently in the us airforce e3 military police patrol woot woot
lol, I am in the airforce and know that Security Forces dont call them selves Military Police. Only the army has Military police.
The OP really needs to contact EBAY. I know he didnt do everything through ebay but I am sure with this info they can do something.
MacMaster 06-05-2006, 11:51 PM i just messaged the guy whose got the high bid on ebay, hopefully he gets it and listens to these posts
Nick06tC 06-05-2006, 11:53 PM my laptop is all messed up and I cant sign into ebay so I cant send messages and all or I would have sent as well. I hate people that are so easy to take advantage.
ddsboi 06-06-2006, 12:04 AM i tried to call no one picked up
MacMaster 06-06-2006, 01:28 PM yo if the guy picks up the phone, ask him if you can see it in person and try and get his adress. Then go beat him up
BOXMAN 06-08-2006, 11:04 PM Report this to the Florida Attorney genrals office. You will have to call over and over again but it does work. Call your local police department and file a report, the attorney genrals office will need this. Let them know that this was an on line transaction or they wont get involved. I had this happen to me when paypal didnt protect your debit card transactions. It took almost one year but I got my money back as well as the original kit that was to be shipped to me due to plea bargin he had to deliver all items that he sold and still had in his possesion. The man recived 2yrs in federal prison due to internet fraud and theft of funds with a total of 1500.00 or more
carlb28 06-15-2006, 06:36 PM hes scamming people for all kinds of stuff... the same way. police departments are hesitant to do antyhing because miami says they dont have jurisdiction since im in cali, my dept says the order was picked up in miami so they dont have jurisdiction. FBI wont do jack because they are doing things way more important. we had a private investigator hired but western union wont release any info. kind of out of ideas.
carlb28 06-15-2006, 06:39 PM i dont understand why police dept's wont do anyting because hes using phone fraud over 3 different states, isnt that against the law to purposely protray yourself as someone your not in order to get money from them? outside of his own state makes that a federal crime right? all they would have to do is bid on his item then call him and he would tell them to send him a money order and they could snatch him up when he goes to pick the money order up...lol..
Scam Artist, they know what they are doing for the most part.
hPower 06-16-2006, 03:21 PM Man, that really sucks!
BOXMAN 06-16-2006, 03:24 PM you need to call the attorney general trust me LISTEN you asked for help and i have been through this so listen and try my idea
dugzilla 06-16-2006, 04:56 PM Man that sucks!! Item removed on ebay.
BOXMAN 06-16-2006, 05:14 PM He is selling again just look on ebay.
carlb28 06-16-2006, 10:37 PM cant find it , what do you see on ebay?
dugzilla 06-17-2006, 12:08 AM there is one turbonics sale that looks really fishy. The seller has a 0 rating and just signed up.
Nick06tC 07-31-2006, 03:50 PM Looks like its happening again

carlb28 08-01-2006, 12:18 AM hey carlb28 any word on your money?
same guy.. hes pretty good... does miami heat tickets, honda engines, various car parts.. etc... hes got some skill in convincing you to western union . and he tells stories about his personal life when you call him so you have reason to think hes legit.. well.. there are 2 guys in florida who got ripped off by undoubtedly the same guy.. they have his picture.. walking in to 2 different money transfer places where he picked up the 2 transfers.. when one of the people in florida went to the police station ( he is about 20 years old, african american male) they tell him.. we can only take a report...
they have his picture, and the type of car he drives... not to mention auctions currently on ebay. i dont know why nothing is being done about this guy... ive spent time to look around on ebay, he pumps up his own ratings with multiple usernames, that way if noone even calls on one of the items, he can just bid himself and he wont have to ship.. because i dont think he actually has any parts at all. just pictures... if this guy is caught i hope they humiliate his butt right after i get my hard earned money back.. i would actually pay to see him in pain. trip out on that.....

OldYeller 08-01-2006, 12:27 AM Have you contacted the fraud department at Ebay. He probably uses the same computer all the time which would allow them to track him.
evosky 08-01-2006, 02:23 PM dude, i really hope you get your hard earned funds back and that you get to open up a can of whoopa$$ on this guy.
this is the reason i've always been skeptical about buying things off of ebay. the only thing i've ever bought was my bB emblems for 20 bucks through paypal.
it's a hard lesson learned, so everyone buying from ebay should always ask for LIVE SHOTS of the items being auctioned off or to see it in person and be sure to check the dates of the files.
good luck.
dugzilla 08-01-2006, 02:34 PM You have to use common sense when buying. Check out the feedback and if you want more info email some of the buyers on his feedback. Don't ever use a money transfer. Always use Paypal or a credit card that has fraud protection. Cover your bases and you will be fine. I have bought a lot of stuff off ebay and haven't been burned bad yet. I have bought some things that I found a better price on because I didn't shop around, but everything has been what I purchased.
Good luck getting your cash back.
carlb28 08-02-2006, 01:13 AM im not saying ebay is bad. i did what they advise not to do, and now i am a perfect exampe of why not to send money outside of ebay, there is NO guarantee.
playboyman007 08-11-2006, 07:52 PM ok listen to this...
i find someone selling a used turbonetics kit on ebay. he lists a phone number on the description. so i call him and he says hes willing to sell it for 1700. so i talk him to 1500. and i call him the next day. we agreed to do a half a half kind of thing. i was sendgin 800 to him and he would ship the turbo and then i would send 700. well i called him from western union. he took my address down and said he was at UPS. i was like cool, so ill call you after i make the transfer. i call him, no answer, so i leave a message saying i finished and to call me back. i havent heard from him its been a week. now hes got another turbo kit for a scion on ebay. same phone number in miami, fl. different ebay username. his email is no longer available and his phone doesnt ring and wont let me leave a message. he cashed in the money order 3 hours after i sent it.

Whoa sorry man. Don't trust ebay, there are many scams and illegal activites going on with it.
zyton7 09-03-2006, 03:18 PM is this possibly him? its in miami. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Turbonetics-Turbo-Kit-Toyota-Scion-tC-2004-Up_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6755QQihZ007QQitemZ170025282871QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Nick06tC 09-03-2006, 04:51 PM No i dont think thats him. All of his other auctions have been under names with like 4 feedback. This person has years worth of being on EBAY. So I doubt its him.
Kilo6_one 09-03-2006, 06:47 PM one thing i have learned to do is stay away from listings where the grammer is so poor that a 10 year old could have written the listing, same goes for craigslist, however; craigslist to me is safer since you generally meet the seller or buyer face to face.
boomster 09-04-2006, 01:11 PM Thats one major a.s.s beating when he is caught! :tap:
That sucks dude, I am very sorry to hear!
Streeter 09-05-2006, 07:14 PM Trust eBay - just follow their rules and they'll protect you. If you work outside their system that's in place for your safety, yea you open yourself up to the possibility of getting jacked.
Sorry to hear about that - is the turbonetics kit pretty popular? You might have enough info to track him down.
carlb28 09-08-2006, 06:35 AM hes been caught. being held on multiple federal charges
Prototype_xB 09-08-2006, 01:02 PM uhhhh, he wanted you to make payment via Western Union, and you DIDN'T find that suspicious!?!? 99% of the time when a seller wants to recieve payment through Western Union, its fraudulent.
Prototype_xB 09-08-2006, 01:02 PM hes been caught. being held on multiple federal charges
GOOD! Hope you get your money back man!
Damn I just read all 3 pages of this. Finally the fu**er got caught. Let us know any updates with your money return or whatever happens.
Good luck.
ddsboi 09-10-2006, 07:17 AM well good he got caught. Doubt he would be found guilty of scamming you since u had no contract, other than orally, that he agreed to sell u the kit. It would be ur word against his and leaves tons of room for reasonable doubt.
Hopefully his other charges go through though. Gonna be tough to get your money back, but let us know.
tC9o9 09-10-2006, 07:34 AM you need to get out in the real world sal..
military personel have a much bigger say than citizens when it comes to police investigations
