iPod to stock head unit.
After searching (and reading) the forums on this subject for the last few hours and spending the last few days searching online with no luck I turn to you, my Scion brothers (and sisters!).
I am looking for an iPod to stock head unit system that will.....
1. Allow me to control my iPod on both my head unit's controls and my stearing wheel controls (06 stock stereo)
2. Allow me to see some of the song / artist info of the current song being played on my head units display.
If it will not do the 2 things above I'm not interested in it.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Chances of finding a unit to do both with your stock radio are slim. The peripheral Ipod2Car will give you basic controls from the radio, but does not lock the ipod , so you can still use pods controls
Doesn't the current 06 Ipod radio do that ? Last I remember, once you plugged the Ipod in the radio controled it, you could control it through the steering wheel and the titles and artist were displayed through the radio.
You can get an aftermarket part like Wiretunes, but because the scion does not have a LCD display to it, it will not display any file information on it, it will just show up as a CD with tracks. If you want a real true display, go with an aftermarket double din unit with an ipod adaptor.
The scion made system does that i think. None of the aftermarket ipod hook ups will display music info on the stock headunit. The ipod to car hook up made by peripheral lets you control track forward and backward, while still letting you use the ipod controls at the same time.
I'm gonna be gettin my ipod2car in about a month when money is bountiful.

OK to confirm, I just plugged my IPOD into one of the dealership models .. and it does display playlist titles, song titles etc.
So to answer your question, get the 06 ipod unit from factory with the provided cable and go to town ...

the 06 scion ipod connection will not allow you to use both head unit controlls and the ipod itself, it will lock the ipod. there is a trade off.. you can either see the track titles and info on the head unit, and use the steering wheel controlls and head unit controlls, or use the ipod controlls with the ipod2car unit, and lose the track titles and info on the head unit, but you can see that on the ipod, depending on where you mount it.. i keep mine in the cubby, but i know what the tracks are and artists.... plus the scion ipod connection cable is like 6 inches long, and you have a hard time finding a place for it, the ipod2car cable is 12ft, so people in the back can play dj while you drive.
I know about the Scion / iPod head unit, but it's $260 at the dealer and if I am going to spend that type of cash I might as well get an aftermarket unit.
Thanks for the feedback though.

Your whole post is about stock HU to Ipod, so why not just buy the upgrade ? It's the easiest, not that expensive, and its stock. As in, will work with your current configuration.
Otherwise the money you'll have to spend to match the stock configuration may exceed the cost of the upgrade.
