View Full Version : Which Hood Pins To Go With?

I recently put on a CF hood and after reading some of the posts about it flying off past 65mph and myself taking it to 60mph and watching it bounce like a kid in the Chuck E Cheese ball pit, I decided I needed to get some hood pins for it. Only thing is I don't like how they detract from the overall look of it. Which of these do you think would look better? If I got the Sparco's I'm thinking of having them powdercoated to like a black chrome to sort of blend in.

I like the Sparco ones. A friend of mine has them on his Si.

I would recommend the locking ones if you are worried if people will attempt to break your hood open and try to steal things, or you park your car in a not so friendly neighborhood?

I ordered through Racing Solution, and the hood is stamped with an XVG badge.

Yeah, I really don't like the look of them, but without them I can only do 60mph. I've hardly seen any xB's on this site with pins on.

Do all CB hoods bounce like that after going over 65?

mine doesnt....of course its a tC...but still....its down TIGHT...it doesnt bounce at all. the latch is strong...all i worry about is the fiberglass breaking...but i think its gonna be fine...im just gonna leave it how it is and skip the pins prolly. if its bouncin though, def. get pins

I've had my CF hood on for 2 years and I've gone on thousand mile road trips at 90mph the whole way.. it moves at high speeds, but never had any issues with it.. bolts are tight and I see no cracks in my fiberglass

this question kinda is on topic.

if you have a regular stock hood and you want to add hood pins to it. you have to drill holes right? (right.) but will it cause the hook to crack or the paint to chip?

depends what quality the job is....if you take your time and be careful with it, you should do fine....i personally would probably heat the paint a little bit just to make sure it doesnt crack.

then again ive drilled 10 holes in my front bumper for new grilles...and the paint never cracked there (didnt use a heat gun or anything)...so maybe itd be fine without it? the only consideration is that the front bumper is (plastic?) and the hood is metal so....who knows....
