Go a/m

If I had to choose I would go with the strut bar.

for about $250, you can get a decent system from *shameless plug* audio express, home of the $1 install. I don't work for em, but got a system from them. The install wasn't great, but the system sounded awesome for the price. Beats out any bazooka-- it's a single 12 powered by a 250 watt amp.
Hey, isn't the tC sub supposed to be one of those custom molded ones, and not a bazooka. I don't know for sure, but that's what I thought.

Strut bars are overrated!

Ya well when sitting in traffic, you be able to hear and feel what 400 bucks got you when you buy the sub. I dought you would ever feel the difference with the strut bar. My pops thought the strut bar for an xB was for "holding you drink".

I won't detract from your statement, because its true! Hahaha, I agree whole heartedly.

If you are a performance enthusiast, you will notice a small difference (not in traffic), expecially if you drop your car and get performance shocks.

But the factory sub is a HUGE waste of money. I'm not saying a sub is a waste, but the factory one is. You can get much better systems if you go aftermarket. Unless you are in love with the fit and finish of the stock sub, or need to finance the payments on the sub, I strongly recommend against the sub, and the strut bar, if you don't need/want it.
But any audio enthusiast will tell you $400 for that sub is a waste. . . you can get high quality stuff that will blow it away, and the cars next to your for that fact. . . and if you're not going for SPL, you can get a better amp and better speakers(in stock location) and get much better sound quality.

Thanks guys for your help. I didn't think the strut tower was worth the $225 extra. As for the subwoofer I don't think it would be that smart as well, I don't want to damage my son's hearing.

I'm fighting over the same question. I think the strut bar would be good if you really drive your car hard and really need it, but I think we'll all admit that most of the people around here just want it to be cool. Take it or leave it, and we all know that.

As for the sub, i'm more torn. I know that stock is crap. I also know that aftermarket would sound way better, have more choices, and be more reliable. But I LOVE the fit and finish of the factory sub. Does anyone know anything about anyone making an aftermarket part that is similar? Or maybe another custom enclosure for a sub? Does anyone know about any NICE stereo modifications for the tC? I'm tired of things looking ____ty. I'm going to sell my nice Integra to buy the tC and I want this car to look/feel smooth.

Suggestions? Please?

That's the thing. . . with the factory sub, you won't be able to damage your hearing, hahahaha but maybe that's a good thing.

Honestly, I don't care if I can blow the doors off the thing - I don't want that. A good balanced system is better than a more powerful, unbalanced one. This thing doesn't have a huge number of other speakers in it, so why would you want a woofer that big? The only thing I don't want is a $400 Piece of Crap. I know Scion got together with Alpine for the head unit - any word on how good or bad the speakers and stuff are? Why couldn't they pull a Mini and hook up with Harmon Kardon or something?

Those are two of the worst accessories you could buy.

I was considering the sub just because of how well it fits back there... But it's damn expensive for what you get. Instead, I think I'm going to buy a 10" Element enclosure, sub, and amp, and put the work in to make it all clean looking.

The Element enclosures are expensive, but they're very VERY nice.. I'm going to have mine painted Flint mica to match the car's exterior.

For a LITTLE added expensive, I'll see a HUGE increase in quality. And no, it's not going to make my ears bleed like my last stereo, but it'll add some good depth and feel to my music without taking up the entire hatch area.
