Hello World...
I just purchased my xB yesterday. It's new with everything standard and nothing more, and came with 81 miles, due to transporting it from a different dealer. I put 50 miles on it yesterday. So, I've read the manual, lots of websites, and these forums, and am looking for some smart advice one breaking in the car.
Here are some things I've heard:
Change the oil after 300 miles
And again at 1000 ??
Don't drive over 60 (unsafe on 95)
Don't surpass 4k RPM
Don't break too hard
No racing
Don't engage in any 'spirited' driving
I've also heard different opinions on when it's safe to drive "normally," whatever that means. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I'll gladly tell you what I did, it may not be correct or it may be, but it's what worked for me.
I waited till it had 1K on it before I decided it was broke in, I also tried not to run in one RPM band to much and also tried not to dog on it to much. I did have it up to all speeds during break in, because it was required to get around to work and home. I changed my oil at about 4700 miles, right before my maitnance required light came on( oil change light). I think everybody breaks their car in different, so do what you think is best and should be fine. IMO
Simple.
Drive the thing.
Make sure you run through all RPMs, so yes that does include spirited driving.
No hard braking.
Speed is somewhat irrelevant. The engine has no clue if it is going 250 or 3. It just spins. Just change up your RPMs. So go as fast as you want, but not at the same speed for too long.

Just drive it. I wouldn't set out on a transcontinental road trip until it has several hundred miles.
It's smart to pay better than usual attention to the fluid levels in a new vehicle, and to watch for any signs of leaks... maybe take it in for its first free oilchange early...
In the old days, there were lots of metal shavings and casting sand left in the blocks, and the clearancing of parts not nearly as good as it is today, particularly with excellent Japanese QC. And the oil filters weren't nearly as good, either, so breaking in gently and changing the oil after the fiirst few hundred miles was a good idea.

1.first oil change at 1K then switch to Mobil1 for long engine life
2.Vary engine speed during break-in
3.Try to keep the revs below 3K till broke in.

I'll tell you what I did. drive it soft for the first day we bought it. second day started having fun racing around burning tires. 500miles slapped the nitrous system on it. 5000miles first oil change. problems? none

The motor will probably start using oil after 50K and need to be overhauled before 100K. Good Luck With That! You'll need it. But you prolly won't have the car long enough. It will become someone elses problem later in the cars life. Way To Go!!!
