The link a flickr shot of my interior center console. If you hover your mouse on the image, you will see a note. Does anyone know what the function of this "screen" is. If you don't want to load the site, it's the thing right below the dial to change the fan speed for the car's HVAC system.

Indeed it is, have someone sit in your passenger seat and you'll see. You need to have a certian weight on it for the light to pop on.

That is where the seat belt warning is in 04-05's...they moved in for the 06(anyone know why?) but left the original indent of the previous years to cut cost I imagine.

On the pre '06 versions of the xB that WAS the warning light for the passenger to fasten their seatbelts. On the '06s that is now just a blank area and the warning light has been moved down to what WAS the knock-out for the Scion VIP alarm system arming light and glass breakage detector microphone.

Here's the older Owner's Manual page:

looks to me like scion uses the same HVAC control panel for the xb and the xa......cause in my 06 xa the seatbelt warning light is in the same spot as the 04 05 xb's

Actually, behind the scenes, all three Scions even use the the same HVAC unit behind the dash - although the compressor in the tC is a different one from in the xA and xB.

The cosmetic details of the xA and xB center panels are different between the xA and xB, but the gross features are very much the same.

While we're on the topic, if you get the LED system from the dealer, where does the switch go? Next to the display on my box?

So minus mounting, will the TC climate controls work in an Xa/Xb?

Negative on that one. The vent and temp controls in the xA/xB are cable driven. tC's are electronic.

The LED switch is mounted to the center console below the emergency brake handle. However, you could mount it in the dash if you wanted to but you will have to extend the wires some to make it fit.

Pass on the dealer installed LED's. Cold Cathodes are the way to go. Brigher and way cheaper.
