View Full Version : Complaints and feedback for SUPER MOD in AZ

I recently edited someones thread by updating the information on the roll call that they created without checking with the originator first. While it was done with all good intentions to help the cause it did not go over well with the originator. I apologize publically for doing that and promise that it won't happen again. In the same thread there was a comment made about what I did and I deleted it since it did not belong in that thread IMO. That is why I am creating this thread. I did not delete the post in hopes to hide what I did or make it forgotten, but more to keep the thread on topic.

I am not perfect, nor do I claim to be. Since I have been your regional moderator I have made several edits, deleted posts, and moved threads. In some situations I contact the person who started the thread to let them know what i intend on doing and why. If I do not contect the person before moving a thread I will post in the thread the reason why which is usually because it belongs in a better location or if they are looking for feedback on something I believe they will be able to get more feedback on where it is moved to.

In the moderator cafeteria I have seen several comments that our area is pretty messy as far as threads but I still do my best not to make waves in our region. If I move a thread I normally leave a shadow thread out of courtesy since i assume that people would like feedback from people in their area as well. I don't normally see Super Mods leaving shadows so if I see a thread that I think will be moved I try to get to it before they do since I will not be able to have a shadow present once it has been moved.

I would appreciate any feedback on my performance, if there is something you would like to see us do more or less of please voice your opinion. As a photographer and videographer I am used to critiquing and open discussion.

For those of you who might be new here let me introduce to you your regional moderators:

Hey everyone, my name is Scott and I'm 25. I have owned my 2006 Nautical Blue tC since August of 2005 and have been actively on ScionLife ever since. I currently work in tech support for MTX Audio so if you have any car audio questions feel free to ask me. I'm very easy to talk to so if you have not met me yet you can just come up and talk to me at a meet if I don't beat you to it.

I am a 24 year old kid. My hobbies are Scions and video work. It'd be great to combine the two. I'm currently working on my bachelor's degree in Film and High Definition TV. I have two wonderful kids and an awesome wife who support my Scion addictions. They almost always come to the meets with me and usually end up talking to more people than I do. I've had my Polar White XB since April of '05 when it was delivered to my dealership with four miles on it. I love driving it everyday and can't wait for the mod list to grow.

I work for Go Daddy Software, Inc. as a Customer Sales & Support Specialist. I'm a scionaholic! I purchased my 06 Classic Silver Metallic tC in May 2005. I'm 22 years old . I'm very active in the ScionLife community and I go to every one of our local meets. If you give me something electronic I can make it work.

Personally I think the Desert & Salt mods are doing a great job. Most of you might not know but I own and run two large forums that are MUCH larger and more popular than SL and I of all people know what a thoughtless and thankless job a moderator can be.

Allthough the D&S forum seems to be mostly a clutter free forum and I think that is because of the great members in addition to the great regional mods we have.

I think this thread should be a sticky, so when someone does have a complaint of some kind they dont have to search for this thread. Just and idea. I personally have to agree with RBasil. I have had some posted removed. But I am fine with it, if I posted something inappropriate. Keep up the good work Scott, Nick, and Troy.

It's nice you have a thread to make comments about the regional mods... I have no opinion either way; however have you considered it says a great deal that you must have a thread to make sure everything is okay? All of the forums I have been on, the mods are transparent, stepping in only when needed and not touching anyones thread when not asked **unless** an edit is needed due to content.

I would consider that a good rule of thumb.

IMHO

I think it says a lot that they want to make feedback easier, or even to reach out to see if there are issues unknown.

I think we may sometimes forget the difference between being friends and just being friendly and that might blur a line here or there. I don't know what the edit was that sparked this thread but I would bet it was minor and won't happen again. If the original post was a roll-call and the edit was to update it.... what's to get upset about anyway? Unless the meaning or point of the post was changed. Granted, I don't want people re-typing my posts but, updating a roll-call?

Let's move on.

I just got the stickie for your regional moderators thread removed as a stickie and just put the bio information from it on this thread along with a link to it. I'll be trying to find other ways to clean it up.

Anyone else have any suggestions at this time?

if you look at the opposite end from "SEARCH" there should be a tab labled "MY POSTS". If you click on that it should have pages of all the posts you have made in chronilogical order so your very first post should be on the 1st page. However, if the thread that you posted in has been deleted that post will be gone since "MY POSTS" only saves a link to the thread that you posted in and a place holder to that exact location.

Ok there is 10 stickies now... lets get rid of some!

I am currently working on that. I combined the "Here are your mods" with this thread so that got rid of one. I was waiting to hear back from someone about changing their thread about being a sticky but didnt hear back from them so I'll go ahead and do it now.

Do you have any other suggestions on what should be removed in your opinion?

MTcX
07-24-2006, 08:18 PM
To let everyone know of the new update I have made all events an announcement and left all stickies that are good to have for permanent information alone. Hppefully this helps to organize our region just a little bit more and make our stickie area a little less cluttered.

To anyone who's thread I altered to make an announcement that is all I did was change it from a stickie to an announcement, NO other information was altered.

I agree with Dave on da official spotted sticky. Need to re do it. And post if you see members only!

i agree as well but that one is a bit harder for me since I see how much people enjoy just posting that they see another scion, and what would constitute seeing another member. There are sometimes i see one with a custom plate that i'll post up and don't hear anything back on, but it could still be someone on here.

I'll give it another week and see what the cencus is.

I think if you don't like the spotted thread or what goes on in it you should stay out or ignore the lame posts if it bothers you so much. Personally, I just skim through it and pass over the silly ones (i.e. I saw a stock xB at Circle K!!!). Let people have their fun, at least they are on topic for the most part.

Good idea on the link to the D&S classifieds. Not all members, especially the new ones know where to look for things. I know I didn't! This is a great way for us noobs to find the classifieds and see what is going on in our region. I think it will also help with sales, people are more inclined to purchase things locally and not have to deal with the shipping and all that jazz. The more ways to inform us new people of all the site has to offer, the better. Thanks

Yes, you guys are all doing a great job!

The only thing I want to say about the Officially Spotted Thread is for some of us noobs, we don't know everyone yet and so we don't always know if someone is a member or not. Since not everyone has Scionetics or ScionLife stickers on their rides. It is a good place to ask if a certain car is a member or not. That's all.

MTcX

It does look packed in those areas BUT which ones do you feel should be removed from that section? All the announcements are for events, do you think we should not have a single thread for an event as an announcement for everyone to get info from?

After next wedsday the contact info for D&S members thread will be deleted completely so that one won't be up too long.

Poor Whaandy. Scrolling is soo difficult isn't it?

I don't understand why people complain about the stuff that is stickied. Give me a break. Eighty percent of the crap that is posted in this forum is just that...crap. The majority of you should be banned from the internet permanently for some of the mundane BS that is posted here. But why do I not make a stink about it in every thread? Because I don't care! I don't have to read it so I don't! If you don't like something, DON'T READ IT. Don't click on it! Scroll (apparently hard for some) past it! Simple, right? I don't even bother to click threads started by certain posters because I already know it will be a waste of bandwidth.

So the intraweeb isn't to your liking? LOG OFF. F'ing Nancies.

Now, i understand that you dont want a guy to just log on and get a screen name to make a quick buck at other scion owners expense. I do think it is a bit rediculous though that ive been a member scince 7- 04 and i cant post a legitimate offer on the local board because i havent proved myself by posting a magic number of 50 posts. I think its obvious im not a scammer trying to use an account to swindle money. And now i really wont be able to because like the post said i just traded my xb in. I liked this place in the beginning and followed alot of threads but the longer ive been around im glad im leaving the scion community. Good luck.

unfortunetely a few bad apples ruined it for the rest by creating false accounts just to sell stuff which is why they had to create that rule for EVERYBODY. I actually was able to HELP the community by creating the "D n S Classifieds links" thread which if you go to other regions you probably won't find and if you do its probably because they liked my idea that I started. If you really wanted to try and sell the wheels all you need to do is going into a few threads and post some opinions quickly and build up your post count.

As far as wanting to post locally in your region THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE RULE and if you've been around since 2004 you should know that better than most people in here. I'm sorry you feel the way you do but if you've already sold you xB I guess we've already lost you as a member anyway. Good journey to you with whatever vehicle you decide to purchase.
