Anyone good at any of the following:

~XHTML/CSS
~PHP/mySQL/PHPmyAdmin/Database Management
~Ajax
~Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro

I'm working on a little project (from the old defunked MN Scion website). It basically going to be an organised Scion website to get info on the cars, FAQs, Articles (they are going to be taken from here *only with permission of original creator), events etc.

I have most of the database prept up. I started working on the layout. If someone could help me out in anyway I would appreciate it!
an easy task someone could do is take the FAQ (i got permission...a long time ago :P ) from here and put it into the database for me :D
Why am I doing this? for experience and to have a more organized place to get scion info.

I'm preping the layout right now. of you want, you can make a banner with these specs:
max height: 100px
max width: 800px
keep it simple/clean :D
put "Expose" somewhere in the banner.

here is a link to layout (WIP): http://nolvex.freepgs.com/scions/

You can also create a simple background (small file that can be repeated) and any other imput is good. If you want an example of a nice logo (my buddy made it for me), you can look at my other debunked website http://nolvex.freepgs.com/hyp/

yes there was a MNScion website back in the beginning...it was something I was paying for out of my pocket and it was when we were trying to get the club up and running... I didn't have enough time or interest to keep it going...
I am so glad that people are gettin stuff up and running and that you guys are keeping meets going! It's nice to see.

I'm a photoshop/CSS/XHTML/DB Management/photographer/general webdev guy.

Sample (in progress): http://www.pmaduluth.com

I typically charge though - unless you have a really good, organized idea of what exactly you want. Then for the purpose of a club site I could probably help.

You could make good use of Google Calendars on the website for events and stuff. People can subscribe to calendars like that too (even in iCal). Anyway, yeah. I have lots of those kinds of ideas.

It seems like a good idea, I haven't looked at any google API yet thought. Is it pretty easy to integrate it into a website? do you have to have a google account in order to look/add stuff to it?

hmmm, an idea just popped into my head. Maybe I can create a scion specific account on there, then I can add stuff through a webpage on the site and it will add the event into that account with the google API, would that work?

I'm pretty sure you don't need an account to look at stuff. You'd have to have access to the calendar to add stuff. (I don't know if they do group calendars now...?) If you take a look at some samples and the API instructions it isn't terribly hard. I hacked out the Google Maps API pretty easily.

Did more work to the layout, you can see how its kinda gonna look minus the images for the layout (which i like to keep to a minimum.)

*edit* whoa, just check it in internet explorer and the events part is acting funky. Will fix later!

I'm a poor student  working my way through college

I do have a very good idea on how I want the site, but its gonna take a while to get everything up. I want to get the "most wanted" stuff up first like news posting, event handling.

What I want to do for the event stuff is to have a roll call list, date, time, name of event, etc...
then when the event is over, users who went can rate the event, add pics (will reseize to save webspace :P only have 350MB right now, upgrade can be done if it gets too big), etc. I have the database setup for it, I just need to write the code :blah:

Good idea! I'm a ColdFusion developer - so can't help you much there.

Tip: standard ad sizes are as follows:

728x90
468x60
120x300
120x600
160x300
160x600
120x90
300x250

(Yknow - if you want to sell ad space or something.)

you mean the layout that is under the GNU/GPL license? I would have to modify it way too much to get it the way I want it.

if not then, no, we don't need that. This is non-profit kinda stuff :nope:

*update*
Got the mini events list & news post working. Working on the Events page right now (there's nothing to do at work :lalala: )
updated the www link in my profile to point to the site also.

What colors would you guys/gals like the layout to be? Red, Green, Blue? I can have multiple color designs as layout code is all in one nice template file :D

did a quick write up of the events page. You can click on the events and I'll bring you to the "Event Flyer." Any sugestions on what to add to the flyer page or formatting would be helpful :D

chanman
07-14-2006, 07:44 PM
Events Page coming along pretty well. You can either click an event on the upcoming events list, which shows the events coming up within the next month. Or you can click the events link on the right and will bring you to a full list of events.

i'm going to be working on the roll call stuff next. This is how its gonna work:
~If you registered to the site (I'm working on that part soon) you can add yourself to the roll call by clicking the "add" button.
~Non registered members can add them selves but will require a registered user on the rol call to verify them before they can be added to the list.
~ icons will show who did or didnt show after the event is over.
~comments will be right under the "flyer" section. Comments before the event, during, and after the event will be in different colors to differentiate them.

any comments/sugestions is welcomed

Got the roll call script finished, just need to make little icons telling if the user is a member, if they showed up, etc. Its coming along great!
If someone can make a few Icons (8x8 pixels) for:
~ Scikotics (probably have to talk to Scikotics Head honcho)
~ Exposed member
~ showed to meet
~ did't show to meet
~ unknown (if didnt say they showed or not)
~ non-member for Exposed
~ any other Club icons!

Flecs

i can also make a scikotics icon for ya... it will probly be just the "s" in the right font... but hsould work nicly... if its legible... i fnot... then i dunno what we could do for it

chanman
07-17-2006, 01:29 PM
actually, make the icons 16x16 pixels. I wasn't thinking when I said 8x8. This should give you more room to work with.

*edit* I wipped up a few ugly icons real quick to test the look of it. Everythings look good (excluding the icons.), no script errors  . Just need to format the text a little bit.

Do you have any PHP/mySQL experience? That would help me greatly! I need me or someone to write up a PHP sript that uploads pics into the DB as a BLOB so I can generate some spiffy picture albums.

Or if you have anything you want to add to the site, you shoot me a PM or post here. I can create a ftp account for you to upload the code and stuff you create.

It's nice, good Business website that gets straight to the point. The only thing I dont like is it's in flash...I personally don't like flash for the whole website. But good as you did it from sratch.
Once I get the site running, I do want to make the code more readable, maybe create classes to group functions. Are you familiar with OOP? I kinda familiar with it. C++/Java class paid off, but I believe PHP handles classes a little different.

As for the pictures. The Events page will create a link to the picture album once the event has past and there are pictures uploaded to it. There will be two databases to make the albums page work:
1st DB - holds the unique image index, image file, height info, width info, size info
2nd DB - image link, comments, event index (to tell which picture event was from)

I have never worked with uploading files with PHP so this is a learning experience for me. This part will most likely take a few weeks to code up.

what CMS system are you using for the site? I've dabbled in web design for a few years and have a little expedience with the mambo and Joomla CMS's.

Currently I have two sites up and running that use mambo
www.onemic.biz
www.andrerodriguez.org

It looks like there's not much infomration on the site so it hsould not be too hard to change over to mambo or joomla.
