The August 2006 Motor Trend reports that Toyota has decided to kill off the Solara and to replace it with a crossover based on the 2005 FT-SX concept car.

The new crossover is to be a two-box, four-door design designed to win over middle-of-the-road "lifestyle" buyers. Its primary target according to MT? The Ford Edge.

If they make that a hybrid it'll sell like crazy. It looks great IMO.

Toyota has stated that it will bring more hybrid-only vehicles to market. The Prius has sold so well because it is uniquely-styled, this looks like it would be another gread addition to the hybrid-only garage.

Yup, that's what toyota needs, another SUV

Thought that this might replace the Highlander, not the only convertable we sell......In fact, I was hoping they'd up the ante on it and bring a hard-top conv to market to compete with Pontiac's, VW's, and Volvo's offerings. :tap:

I like how it looks like the Edge too

and how do you replace a coupe/convertible with a cross over SUV? that makes no sense to me, but I guess Toyota knows what theyre doing

I believe this will be the new Highlander since they resdesigned the Camry that the Highlander chassis is based on. I am interested though I will have to sell my pickup and sedan in order to make room for it (and to pay for the expensive HYBRID motor, hehehe).

I highly doubt that this design will replace the Highlander. I've been looking at this vehicle concept since it came out. P:ersonally I think that This design should have replaced the Matrix, seeing as it is a "Cross over" design. It would have ben a nice, bold, and strategic move, making it both a new/refreshing look not to mention very upscale. Since the Matrix's look is starting to get "tired" Thsi should have been the next logical step. However, I wouldn't put it past Toyota to use design cues from the FT-SX as ideas for the next Highlander design.

Cusriouser and cusriouser...I had also thought that this design might make the Scion line, seeing as it was too "cool" to be Toyota. Would a modified version of this design, on a smaller, more "Economical" platform be the concept of the xD? hmm...

ooh ooh...I also remember that Don Johnson, before he left, was looking into cramming a 1.8 with lfters, aka the GT-S/XRS engin,e, into an xA. But was having fitting problem. I know this because it was a conversation we had iat SEMA in Vegas, last year. If the go that route you're going to get the performance AND the economy as well. The one thing I hope Scion NEVER does is put the Scion symbol like they did on the Camry and Yaris's gives the looke a very "Beakish" look.
