Default It's a hot segment but...

I'm having some trouble understanding the popularity of these new subcompact SUVs. They aren't very roomy and many have small underpowered engines . The Buick Encore only has a maximum cargo capacity of 48.4 cu ft, and it ranges in price from 25-30K. They do have a really high seating position but other than that, I don't see why it's better than an xb2. Can't argue with the popularity so I see why Toyota has to get in the game.

I had trouble with it as well Crimsonxbox. I was going between the chevy trax and the honda hrv, when I found the Scion xB at the Toyota dealer that shared the same lot as the honda dealer. It was almost ten thousand dollars cheaper, and it was so much more roomy. It had more standard horsepower, and it didn't look like a toy. Much better vehicle in my opinion.

I was just reading up on the Chevy Trax over at Car and Driver.

"There’s no getting around it: The Trax is slow. Get used to flooring the pedal. A lot. We did, and traveled 23 miles on a gallon of regular. That’s shy of the 24-mpg city figure quoted by the EPA and well short of the 31-mpg highway number."

So C&D got 23 MPG with the Trax's 1.6 liter turbo and it's sluggish. I think you made the right choice.

^^ Great points. A friend of mine leased a Jeep a couple of years back and never got anywhere near the gas mileage the sticker said they would get. my 6cyl mercedes would get better gas mileage than his 4cyl jeep! i usually get bad mpg in my xb bc i drive 99% city driving where i stop and go every few feet. this past weekend, i took it on a nice 200 mile drive and i averaged 28.1 mpg for that tank of gas. it was all open highway and a little bit of stop and go traffic. so i know my car can definitely get good mileage, i just have to keep it on the highway

Another point to go the xb route (which is a huge selling point for me) is the reliability factor. I scour craigslist often and see xb's (both generations) with 180k, 230k and sometimes more miles and although they are beat up from being used as commercial fleet cars, they are still running. So if you take care of yours, it should last forever! ;)

I just broke 12k miles and i honestly want to keep this car for as long as humanly possible haha.

When the zombie apocalypse is upon us, you'll need a roomy and reliable vehicle.
