Default Stock Stereo

When I test drove, the tC didn't have the radio installed yet so we were cruising with no sounds. I'm wondering how the stock stereo performs? .. mainly the mp3 feature ?.. the mp3 player hlped tipped the scale between a yes or no on getting the tC.

Don't know about the mp3 but I thought the sound on the tC was very decent. Just wish they only had sound controls go from 1 to 10 and not 1 to 80 plus. I have to put on 50-60 to have it sound like I want it. Strange because I think the xA has same system but I did not think that system sounded good and I was playing the same CD/radio stations during review.

As Adam Sandler once so elegantly put it ... "It's a piece of ____ .... "

The speakers sound like (to quote Nick@AGP) two monkey raping each other. The radio has NO ergonomical forethought. And, to top it off, it's a Pioneer . The MP3 is it's only redeeming quality. I dig that door though. You could totally put a bad ___ double-din screen there, and no one would know.

As soon as I get the system out of the Solara, I'll have some nice speakers, radio, and amp in it. Probably Weds or Thurs. Maybe I'll take some pics, so you folks can see how everything comes apart, since I haven't seen any yet. The alarm too, probably. since I now have a wiring diagram for the alarm as well.

Deck seems ok, but speakers are pretty bad. Then again, any factory stuff sucks. I'm use to decent systems, so I knew this wasn't going to be any good. For a factory system, its good, but even then it sounds like crap. First thing to go in will be speakers and an amp.

Any chance it has RCA out's? I'd much rather just add an amp and some components than have to replace everything... (plus the extra cost would make up some of the difference between the tC and the GLI if I get that instead)

Nope. Just use a line out converter.

I happen to like the stereo. I got the 6-disc changer.

Anyway, with the mp3s, make sure you put the sound retouching on. It really really makes it sound a lot better.

i like the mp3 feature, the 10 different colors you can change it to are cool also. i prefer a volume **** though (as opposed to an up and down button) especially when you have to put it up to like 50 to be able to hear it

How do you change colors? I read the manual and did not see how.

i have the 6 disc changer? maybe that matters. there's a silver button on the bottom right corner that does it.

the single and 6 disc look exactly the same, but that could be an added feature on the 6 disc only. it's cool though...colors are really vivid and one of the choices is called "mixture" and actually cycles through all the other colors....it's hypnotic while you're driving at night

Yeah, no button silver button here on the single disc changer.

I have the stock Pioneer system in my tC. I read the tC manual (yes, I'm a dork ) and didn't see anything about the stereo. Should I have gotten a separate manual for the stock Pioneer stereo?

Yes, you should have a seperate manual for the CD player...check with the other books that you received.

As for the stock system, it is good for Rock music and radio listening but anything with heavy bass sounds very distorted...good for factory but nothing special.

Is the stock stereo in the tC the same as the stock stereo in the xA and xB? I would think so from looking at the specs but when I test drove all three cars, the tC had much better sound (and I was playing the same CD in all three).

Thanks Cypher50, I just looked through everything I got and didn't have a manual for the stereo so I will call the dealer and ask him about it. -Jayme

It is the same. Try this feature, hold down the SSP button and it will say Scion tC. You can chance it to xA or xB by using the volume controls. I liked it on xB with Feel on and bass at 4. Still playing with it.

Stereo is ok, but nothing like i thought putting a Pioneer name and 160 watts would sound like. Its not a big deal, but rap and heavy bass songs will leave more to be desired.
