im gettin my windows done tomorrow and i cant decide if i want to put 25% tints in only the front windows, or have all of them done. what percentages and kind of tints does everybody have? If you do all your windows, how much lighter should the back windows be?

I think it looks best if they all match, I would either do the front to match factory of do them all.

well thats what i mean, i want to match the font to the back, or maybe go darker

I would go a little darker. 25% isn't that dark.. And definetly do all around.

I have 35% on mine and I like the match. It's slightly lighter. I would think that 25% would be a perfect match to the stock tint.

not to completely thread jack, but its along the same vein of the conversation.

since the rear half glass is darkened glass, how would you be able to match the front glass and rear glass? is that up to the person doing the work, or am i missing a part of the equation?

I just took mine to a reputable tint shop and told them I wanted the fronts to match the rest. I think they put 30% up front, which is as dark as the front can legally be in Texas. I'm pretty paranoid about going any darker, since I got popped for dark tint a few years ago.

you are not going to get your front ones to match the back probably. I just had my tint guy put 20% all the way around. That adds darkness to the factory tint to make it just about limo. Makes the front two windows look lighter than they really are, hence less of a chance of getting pulled over for it. 35% is the legal limit here in Texas. But its just too darn light.

If you tint your box, you gotta do the whole thing. It looks nice when its tinted.

I think I will have my tint guy add another layer to the back hatch window. I dont want people to be able to see an outline of me when they are behind me.

OH YEA! forgot to mention how much it helps with the heat! a huge difference!!! Thats another good reason to tint all the way around, the factory colored glass seems like it draws more heat inside!!! (i dunno, im just being scandleous *spelling?*) But after the tint job there was a drastic decrease of heat inside.

Anywayzzz hope this helps.

i just put 30% in front windows. it looks a hair darker than the rear but its a very close match. the inside looks way different since only the front have film, but exteriorly...close match.

A good testimony!

Even more reason to tint the whole thing. JMO

20% up front, nothing on the rears. They match well.

You will surely get a ticket if a cop notices, and 5% is easy to spot as too dark. Hope you roll w/ your windows down all the time.
I wish I had the cajones to do that, but I dont want a ticket magnet either :D.

HAPPY TINTING!!!

can you even see out of a 2 layered 5% window? Must be hard at nite.
I wish I could do that. I'm too scared tho'. I dont want to chance getting a ticket that would cost more than a tint job.
The darker the better right!?

California huh? 70% is the darkest you can go if the state law says 70%. That is extremly light, barely noticeable. BTW, 70%+20% does not equal 100%, why do you think 20% is ok? What made you pick that number?

The lower the percentage, the dark the film is.

I was told that the rear windows are 17%, by someone with an electronic gauge. So...20% is about as close as you can get to matching (they dont make 17% aftermarket).

SO wait... the xB comes with tinted windows.. but are they tinted glass? or actual tint put on all windows except front by the factory?

please advise... because my xB came with tint on the front 2 windows... 32% tint.. i think its called digi-film tint.

i would really like to do 20 or 15% on all the back windows, rear passengers, hatch and 2 small windows in the back... then do limo tint on the windshield strip

spikeymike78
11-27-2006, 06:46 PM
^^ I didnt mean to sound stupid or whatever... but the xB is the first vehicle that i have bought that came with some windows tinted... like how an suv comes with all the rear windows tinted. i have owned a celica, tc, ford probe and a civic.. and have brought them to a tint shop for my needs.

if the actual glass itself is tinted... what percentage of tint do u have to add to make it 20% or 15%?

if the glass has tint film installed.. i guess the tint shop can just remove it... but i need to know which is the case for the xb

any help would be appreciated

isnt the law in all 50 states... that if you are going to install a windshield trip for tint on the inside... or a vinyl decal strip on the outside... that it cant be more than 6 inches from the top of the windshield?

just curious...

and the guy with the 3 layers of 5% tint... why didnt u just go 2 layers of limo? what is the benefit of having 3 layers of tint.. wouldnt that make the window view blurry?

SO i might be moving to pennsylvania or I might stay in Jersey so its all f'd up
I could have all back windows as dark as i want in Nj Or have all except winshield in PA . The limit is 70 % light let in so does that mean that 30% tint is the darkest u can go and pass inspection? Im new to this tinting poo

No, read my last post, It means the darkest you can go is 70%, which is barely anything at all. Any solid vinyl stripe on the w/s is illegal. You have to be able to see through it. However, again, it depends on the cops locally.

(The AS1 marking reflects the class of safety glazing used on the windshield; all windshields must have an AS1 marking.)

I just got my two fronts done wit 20%, I think, and from certain angles it looks great (the tints still wet ) but from other views its obvious they arent the same. Im going to probably go back and get all around done. My question is what should they put on the back to match the fronts better.

No. Whatever the tint laws lists as the percentage, that is the darkest you can go. http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html

In florida the darkest you can go on the front doors is 28%. At the shop I work at, we use LLumar film. They make 30%. That is the darkest you can go in Florida.

I'm going to be putting 20% on all of mine except the front.

I've got a truck that I put 20% all around and the ENTIRE windshield. I had to put real HID's in to see that my headlights are on at night. I got pulled once for the headlights. lol.. Cop said, 'you know those lights are illegal?' And I said, 'no sir.' And he told me I'd have to remove them and I asked, 'then how will I be able to see through my illegal tint if I do?' lol...

He looked in my car, shook his head and said get out of here, but take it off soon. haha I've been driving it since '97 and that was in '03.

But, I digress... sorry for the tangent. It looks like it will be 20% on sides and back for me in the box.
