Does anyone else have a slow shifting automatic?

Seems like whenever the engine is cold and the "blue thermometer" is lit, the trans is sluggish and holds every gear way too long, finally slamming into the next gear. Smooths out only after the whole drivetrain has warmed up.

True, I only have a couple hundred miles on my xB, but if this is what it's like during summer, what is it going to be like all winter?!?! I even keep it in the garage at night...

Is this the nature of this transmission or should I get it looked at?

Yes, that is typical of the auto tranny. It can be a pain, but i have had to use full throttle to get myself out of a situation, and the tranny kicked right in and helped me out. I would think that Toyota has designed a decent thermostate to help out in colder weather.

This is somenthing normal with the Auto tranny. I have the same problem. I believe this was done on purpose to keep the RPM's low until all the fluids are set and the car is warmed up. They advice you not to go over the RPMs when it is in this state, but like CB said if you need to accelerate it will definiteley pick up!

As far as what is going to happen during winter...when I got mine in early march there were a couple of snow storms and cold weather days and it took almos the same time to warm up as it does now...maybe a minute or two more. If this is really annoying you, you can get an automatic starter and start it 2 minutes before you get on the car or just go out and wait.....I usually don't try to force my car when the blue light is on...

yeah this is common with alot of cars. My moms matrix would do that same thing when it was cold. dunno if this helps
