I never realized the in depth details that go into..... detailing a car haha.

I need a couple minutes of your time because as I go through more and more posts on car care I get more lost. If anyone could just briefly give me a description of the following items and any other additional informartion your willing to put in.

1.)Clay bar? What exactly do you do with it?
2.) Whats AIO?
3.) Glazes? When to use? whats the best?
4.) "2\3 bucket method"?


I know these are all probably stupid questions to you but someones gotta learn sometime! Any input is greatly appreciated

 

The clay bar is used to remove contaminates from the paint. It is in fact a bar made of clay. You put some detailer spray on the area you are going to clean and rub the bar across that area. You can buy a kit that has the bar and the detailer spray. Mother's or Meguiar's makes a kit. There are some areas on the tech section for detailing--take a look.

 

AIO= klasse All In One it's a chemical cleaner product
glazes go after washing, claying, a polishing out swirls, and before the wax. They lay down a layer of oils on the paint that help to hide defects and enhance the gloss of the paint. I prefer clearkote's red moose machine glaze and xmt's carnauba finishing glaze.
2 bucket method is a way of washing the car in which 1 bucket is straight water used for rinsing the mitts and the other is a bucket of soapy water. it helps to prevent swirling of the paint.

 

Depending on how filthy your car is, the two-bucket method does more than just prevent swirls - it can prevent scratches. The basic idea is that you want as much as possible of the junk that comes off your car to go into the rinse bucket, so you don't just end up reapplying it.
