I would like to know if anyone here has experienced a "knocking" noise on the front end of their xB when using Goldline springs. It only happens on sharp bumps. Otherwise, the vehicle rides great and the steering is perfect. The rear is totally quiet.

The day I purchase the springs, I put them in myself. I got the torque specs from an old echo manual I had. I cut the stopper exactly as directed by Goldline. I put everything back together perfectly. Right out of the driveway, I got the knocking noise. I was told to let the spring settle for a week and see what happened. The knocking got worse. I know the torque specs are correct. I went directly to Toyota to see a manual and verify them, because I thought this may he been the problem. 3 suspension support bolts ... 29ft-lbs, top strut bolt ... 25ft-lbs, and 2 lower strut bolts ... 69 ft-lbs.

Talked to Jeff at Goldline and he sent me to their installation facility to replace the springs. The tech there inspected my installation and said it was correct. He then showed me where the springs were rubbing on the 2 upper coils, causing the noise. He told me that replacing the springs would not cure the problem. But he did so as instructed by Goldline. After he replaced the springs, I drove it and he was right. Knocking is still there. Plus ... I had to pay $62 to have this done. Even the girl who did my paperwork did not understand why I had to pay for something that did not fix my problem. Now don’t get me wrong ... I would have been more than glad to pay if the problem was solved. Something I thought was a little strange … he installed everything with an impact wrench. He did not torque down any of the bolts. I hope my vehicle does not fall apart on me.

On every vehicle I have installed springs on or rode in that had springs, there is always a knocking noise for the first few weeks, it just takes a little time for the springs to settle in. Just ride on them for a few weeks and they should settle nicely, and be as quiet as factory springs.

I always got a squeaking/rubbing noise when hitting any bumps after getting my Gold-Lines put on. it was not real bad and I always meant to talk to the guy that put them on but never got to it.

Anyway, when I had the car jacked up to paint my calipers, I pushed the driver's side spring inward slightly. It looks like the bottom coil rubs a little on the seat, there's even a little bare spot on the spring. After giving it a little adjustment away from the seat edge, the noise seems to have gone away. Hope that helps... Doubtful, I guess since you had the pros looking at them but who knows...

I get a little bit of spring knock from my goldlines as well. I might try and build up a set of steel cable strut straps to compress the springs slightly and keep them from chattering under full extension of the front strut.

hey guys thanks for all input, on that. I have a customer that I installed his springs on friday and his only click on a steep slope in reverse. Mine clicked just a touch when we first installed them. but 18000 miles later all is well. I want to that all the peeps for purchasing from me and if any problems arise feel free to contact me.

Thanks for your responses. I am beginning to think my scion is cursed, but we will see, I have something I am going to try to fix my noise this weekend and I will keep you informed.

One thing I would like to mention is that I did speak to Bill at Scion Specialties, and he went way beyond anything I would have expected to try and solve my problem. I really appreciate all the time and trouble he went thru to help me. I think anyone would agree that he is a very reputable seller and will put 100% into any questions or problems you might have. He is always there for his customers.

mine knock and squeak. i've had them for about 10,000 miles. One thing I noticed, is that other springs IE tanabe etc. come with a rubber peice that goes around the top parts of the coils so they don't rub. my goldlines don't have this. maybe thats the prob? I just deal with it. its not that annoying. :wink:

i had just bought some glodlines for $90 TODAY...

...and had just read this after getting then.


i was originally set on the Tanabe DF210's, but i wasnt quite aware of the Rubber guard that those come with..

..or maybe the lack thereof with my new Goldlines..



is there anywhere where i can acquire such rubber guards (would they be spring-brand specific? i.e. Would using the ones from the DF210's work on Goldlines?) or is there anything else to remedy the noise?


of course they're gonna make noise regardless of guards or not (right?) for a certain period of time, but i was driving a janky car before this one, where everytime i hit uneven pavement, the suspension would pop/clink/click.. which was annoying (especially when driving the ladies around) :twisted:

Try tightening the top strut bolt/nut, under the dust cover.

I installed some tanabes on xa two days ago and it was clicking on the first turn, pulled it back in jacked it up and checked everything it was cool, nothing wrong. I checked with the owner a few minutes ago, he said it has subsided quite a bit. probably just needed breaking in. Bill

I had the same problem on my 240sx with Eibach springs. It never went away. I just turned the radio up so I didn't hear it. It sounds to me like its hit and miss with this problem.

Oh wow - this is not an option. Anyone have experience with springs that don't suck? If I put springs on my brand new xB and they make any noise at all someone is going to get to see my head explode.

i have the Goldlines on and imo, they don't suck...no noise from my springs, i did encounter a warped rotor sound, but it was the rotor hitting the plate behind it and it wasn't because of the springs ( i don't even know why that happened, but i just held the plate behind the rotor for a bit and that solved the problem)...

...but i love the Goldlines and the ride is smooth and the drop is even all around ;)
