View Full Version : Ok--Tell me how many miles you get from a tank of gas!
Hardhitten 11-25-2003, 06:03 AM Im wondering what everyone gets from a tank of gas. I read some posts but none that are just about this.. So here goes color Post if your a auto or manual then on average how many miles you get until the light comes on. O and any mods.
For me I have been getting about 250 or so until the light comes on and I don't think thats good. I figure the light comes on at around 10 gallons used or so. So a rough estimate for 250 for a tank would be 25 mpg. that was with ALLOT of highway driving also... and I got a intake... http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/otn/confused/shrug03.gif
scionracerxb 11-25-2003, 02:51 PM i have a stick, with intake , and exhaust, and 18 inch rims, and at first, i got around 26 mpg, but after the engine was broken in, I reset the computer...(at the advice of some others in this forum) and it worked!...now i get around 30 mpg even in the city.
izzles 11-25-2003, 03:04 PM Resetting the Computer???? I have never heard that...whats is that about fill me in please...
I have an automatic with an intake and I get areound 25 to 30 I drive on highway all day....
HotBox 11-25-2003, 04:35 PM For me I have been getting about 250 or so until the light comes on and I don't think thats good.
keep in mind you have bigger rims which hinders ur gas mileage
Besk_one 11-25-2003, 04:51 PM I have a manual
if i do a lot of freeway driving the light goes on between 250-265
if i'm in town and driving with a lead foot - as little as 210
lots of freeway drving = 28mpg
lots of city = 22mpg
that was stock, now with the SPFR intake i'm getting 2-3mpg more than before

Scionic 11-25-2003, 06:13 PM almost 10K miles.....manual.....98 mile commute/day.........approximately 95% highway/5% street........30 mpg consistently.
scionaraxb 11-25-2003, 06:15 PM 28-29mpg..auto, AEM.
BlueBox 11-25-2003, 06:20 PM I have an Automatic...i have over 10,000 miles on my bluebaby...alot of daily freeway driving to work....
i have been keeping track of my mileage..i've been getting about 300 miles to a full tank...sometimes even more...and sometimes less..
my calculation seem to indicate an average of 26 miles per gallon using both highway and local street...
i'm not complaining...although the manufacturer states a generous 30mpg to 32 mpg...i doubt that. .unless we're driving like an old grandma going 40mph without pushing our accelerator...
i drive hard...so i'm not complaining...
profecy 11-25-2003, 06:25 PM i hav an auto and my xb is all stock and i only get 190-210 i only drive round town though
yanges 11-25-2003, 06:29 PM i get 28-29 mpg and i do mostly city driving....
i have the 5 speed and use Shell 89 currently....
Hardhitten 11-25-2003, 06:38 PM Awesome guys! Thanks for all your input and anyone esle that wants to feel free to jump in.. Now someone said something about reseting the cpu. How do you do this? And what does it do? Thanks

Always reset your ECU when you make a modification. It allows the computer to adjust fuel curves, clear all errors, etc. Just disconnect your battery for a while to reset the ECU.
Hardhitten 11-26-2003, 03:55 AM Any other ways to reset it? and how do you know if it was reset?

George 11-26-2003, 04:38 AM 5-speed, stone stock, 28MPG, mostly around town. Yellow light comes on at about 250-260, and I usually fill up around 290-300, That needle drops real fast when it gets to the "E" mark!
The yellow light is pretty conservative. There is probably 2-2.5 gallons left when it lights.

Manifold back exhaust system, stylis intake( Injen fakie) and 18 in velox wheels with 35 series perelli's. With a full tank I get about 275 miles. Using 89 at the USA gas station.

You can reset it by disconnecting the ECU itself, but do you really want to take it out to do so? The battery is the easiest way. Just leave it disconnected for a few minutes, or if you're obsessive compulsive you could disconnect it overnight. Seriously man it's not anything complicated to be worried about. This is rookie stuff.
Hardhitten 11-26-2003, 07:12 AM LOL.. I dont like messing with the battery.. I dont want to look like this..http://www.smilies.okipages.com/s/contrib/ruinkai/lightingzapA.gif hehe then I have to redo radio stations damit lol...But I should redo it. Since I got new rims and all.
I get 30-31mpg all the time with my car. All i have is AEM Intake.
DibujoB 11-26-2003, 12:17 PM I have a 5spd with stock rims...about 3,000 miles on the odometer. I'm also running the SPFR intake.
The little light usually comes on at around 270 miles or so, and I usually fill up around 300 miles.

It's VERY hard to shock yourself disconnecting the battery. Don't be skeerrrred. :P
autobotxxtonyxx 11-26-2003, 04:19 PM Onyx Blue Scion... I just have an intake... but i get about 280 using 92 Gas... ive noticed that i get my best milage within the first 1/4 tank after that it just burns like crazy. The first 1/4 tank i got about 120 Then about half a tank i had about 200 Miles pretty ____ty aint it. Well i think that the light goes on after youve burned about 8 gallons of gas.. soo 8x35=280 that seems about right? tell me what you guys think

You're not getting better mileage the 1st 1/4 tank, it's the just way the fuel gauge and sensor read that trick you.

i like the fact the warning light leaves you a little ways to go just in case :)

just be sure to disconnect the negative connector for the battery, otherwise you might get that shock you are worried about

Docofmind 11-26-2003, 11:38 PM There should be just a fuse to pull out of the engine bay to disconnect the ECU.
BTW, i m getting 29 MPG on a tank breaking the car in and running 215/40/18 so its even better than that :)

Well, this is the first car I've had in some time that has a warning light. All the others assumed that I could read the guage!
Now if it just had a 20 gallon tank! :)

bluxb 11-28-2003, 04:58 AM i go about 300 miles before the light comes on and i have 17's with no mods. but i drive my xb nice and easy usually shift around 3 or 3.5 k rpms. also i have a 5spd
I drive 64miles one way 99% freeway at night with no traffic. I usually go about 70-75 mph. I have the AEM and the five speed. A little under the sticker ratings huh? I guess you would have to keep it at 3000RPM or less at all times. ill try it some time.. (Idontthinkso)
