Default hood lifting

what about the jdm thing of lifting the hoods on the part that is in front of the windshield... I know that it would help a lot to keep the engine bay temps low... is there any kit or has someone in here done it.

thanks

I think he is talking about putting metal washers on the screws/bolts that hold the hood to the hinges. Thus raising the rear part of the hood to act like a vent for hot air to exit. I'm not sure I would call it a JDM thing but to each his own. I would probably go down to the hardware store and look for some washers that fit the bolts on the hood. Might want to take ONE out to get an idea of what size you need. Personally, I wouldn't do it because I think it would break up the smoothness of the tC's lines.

We do vented hoods, but most tC guys are not fans of JDM mods in the first place... it'd also pull the hood up above the headlights and would look off a bit.

I've never liked the look on civics, but would strongly dislike it on the tC and haven't seen one with spacers on.

thanks. that is exactly what I meant.. I said it was a JDM thing because I used to own a civic and all the forums that I read from (clubcivic.com jdmcivic.com honda-tech.com) called it a jdm thing. About the breaking of the smoothness of the tc's lines im not sure... thats why I want to look at one with it done.

thanks

there was a guy on here that had a tc that had that. I ws trying to find the pic but its gone. anyways, it looked pretty decent. it did seem to break up the tc lines or anything. it just looked like the hood was raised, which was not too notiable. if you feel that it will help your performance more power to you. i would like to see how it turns out.

unless you have a large amount of hp...there's no need to do that to keep ur engine bay cooler

I had it done to my car. I took it off after I put back my cf hood. cost me about $7-8 in parts because metric bolts cost more (about $1.20 each & 8 cents per washer). i took a stock bolt and determined the size at Ace hardware.

any cooling gains are negliable. 240sx guys (me being one of them) debate over the functionality of it. in addition to venting engine heat, air that enters the engine bay through the grill/radiator has no where to go so you got a parachute effect going on. so in theory hood propping seems like a good idea. Toyotas and Nissans run much hotter than Hondas, so it would be more beneficial for our cars.

i currently am running the washers/bolts that HKSpeed was running, he gave them to me after he put his c/f hood on..

it does make the car look better imho.. as the whole car is raked now.. i got the drop which makes the front a lil lower, the hood is tilted, and the sunroof is tilted so it goes pretty smoothly.

i highly doubt it does anything for performance, but when i finally put my header in, then i will put two or three more washer so that they actually function.

hmm... some former old batches of CF hoods i know had "fitment issues"..... which were exactly that.... the hood came up at the hinges and weren't flush.

get a hold of one of those?

Functional, and at a discount price.... some CF hood guy is going to remarket them as legit modified hood!

This sounds like an experiment for anyone with an OBDII reader. We gotta know if this does have an effect on IAT. It'd be cool also if someone has an accelerometer to see if the change in aerodynamics has an appreciable effect. In both cases, I doubt anything much changes. I would love to know about IAT effects for sure though.

Has there been any development possibilities of making CF hoods with this feature? Kind of a cowl style hood like the old mustangs, but obviously we wouldn't want anything that big. Maybe just a slight hump that runs from edge to edge rather than just about 2 feet in the middle?

The simple, easy answer to this is to remove the rubber lining between the hood and the widshield cowl. This leaves a 1" gap for air to be sucked out of. Did this on My WRX and it made a large difference.
